Hi all,
We are looking for a very proficient oscommerce / zen cart / php programmer.
We have roughly 4 - 6 weeks work (and ongoing).
Basically we need some one who can write code from the ground up. We have 5 stores all needing to be built with 1 admin panel / database with a lot of coding involved.
Can any one recommend any one as finding it hard to find anyone to help!

Hi,
There is already a contrib for OScommerce that is capable of running multiple stores from the 1 admin.
If you go to the oscommerce addon section and type in multistore you will find it.
You would need to give a lot more info about your requirements as all you really say is 4 -6 weeks (not lot of info there)

yes, we have a full report done which is at the moment 15 pages long but feel its a bit to much for a forum.
Trying to get a few quotes in along with deciding some one to use. We dont really want to use mods if possible and would rather have these things built for us as their is a lot we need the store to do.
We have a fairly big budget and decided that we want the store just the way we want it....trouble is now find the coder:)

Feel free to send me the report, can sign an NDA should you need.
I can certainly give you some pointers if nothing else.

I do a lot of oscommerce work and have built a bespoke oscommerce multi store.. osCommerce is my background, have been coding it for the best part of 10 years.
That said these days for multi store I think the Magento implementation is fantastic and would be nigh on impossible to come close to with an osc based solution.
For that kind of budget, I would definitely consider a migration to Magento instead of a heavy osc customisation.

Zen Cart is heavily based on osCommerce
these days I think most people refer to one of the enhanced or loaded (or Zen Cart) flavours when they talk about osCommerce

Guys, really appreciate all of your respnonses its all very helpfull.
I really like the look of magento and the multi site feature.
Il be sending the full report over shortly to you guys an dgetting quotes, weve also been looking at other solutions from some of the big providers based on asp.net but believe these open source carts would actually be better at what we want to achieve.
The report will be very in depth and hopefully not miss anything, going to go over it once more to make sure. i think it is a fairly big project which includes multiple pricing for products on different stores, purchase ordering systems, full stock reporting creating feeds for customers (one of our sites is a dropship supplier).
we have 5 sites in total, 2 oscommerce and 3 zen cart which we want to start afresh all from the same database for stock control reasons.
One thing i am worried about is that the 2 oscommerce sites and 1 of the zen sites are heavily seo'd and rank very well for our search terms. Am worried that migrating to a new platform would have a negative effect on our rankings.
Magento does seem like an ideal solution but because of being used to zen and oscommerce dont really have an idea what magento can do.

Its easy enough to keep your SEO as long as some basic principles are followed:
In Magento its possible to add an extra attribute which we would use internally, called oscommerce_product_id
We can then import products from osc into magento and keep record of the oscommerce product ID.
We can then set up a system to easily 301 redirect old osCommerce products to their new Magento counterparts.
We can do the same with categories
After that if you have any content pages or other misc pages, we can set up bespoke 301 rules on a case by case basis.
In my experience, if you do this kind of thing right, it can actually give you a boost in the SE's as the spiders go into overdrive to get all your new content and you get a huge freshness boost.
