I've had a logitech mx510 mouse for a couple of years, which has just
started playing up with the light going on and off.

Do corder mice have built in batteries or is it just wear and tear and time
to get a new one?

If I do get a new one I'm looking at the M500, anyone with one of these
got any comments on it?

None of my corded mice (a mixture of ones with and without balls) have batteries.

You could always go back to one with a ball.

Bet you miss taking the ball out and cleaning all the rollers?

I got a couple of cordless Logitech mice from Tesco brilliant ,never want to go back to corded.

Mind you the cats keep nicking them.;)

I wouldn't dare have a cordless mouse.
Would probably lose it in the first week, I'm using one now from my laptop
but had to hunt through the house to find it first.

I've never ever come across a corded mouse with batteries.

As far as my knowledge of electronics goes there is no reason for a corded mouse to include batteries since they can receive the minimal amount of power they need through USB. Wireless mice are great, until you're in the middle of a heated battle during LAN night at the office and your batteries die. PWND! :)

I have never ever come across a corded mouse with a battery.

I have also never come accross a green sheep, but can't promise there is no such thing. But if they exist, they are the absolute exceptions.

I can't say i've ever seen a corded mouse with batteries.
However if the light is going on and off it could be a loose connection inside the mouse or the Laser failing (usually the light is red and the mouse just stops moving properly when the laser is failing)

Also are you using it on a mouse mat with black bits?

since Optical mice rely on reflection to monitor movement and direction and the such and black doesn't reflect that well.

My advice would be don't go for a cordless mouse. There is nothing more irritating than the mouse starting to pay up or to pack up when you are very busy. You then have to find batteries and remember how to re-register it when the batteries are replaced.

...and remember how to re-register it when the batteries are replaced.
I just plugged mine in and it worked, didn't have to register or anything.

The last one I had was about three years ago. I had to go through a process of pointing at the receiver and pressing a series of buttons or something each time the batteries were replaced. It was the same with the wireless keyboard. Each time the batteries went I had to rummage through my files looking for the instructions (my memory is not all it once was).

Perhaps they have refined them now but you still have to deal with changing the batteries and they have a nasty habit of chucking it when you are really busy. :(

I would recommend a wireless one, i have used one for years and never replaced the battery's as you can now get ones that you just put into a base to recharge over night when you have finished with it.

Logitec do a good one.
