I have contacted several companies offering to sell their product and offering to pay cash for some stock, but suprised how many companies are not replying!

Contacted several websites offering to pay for ads on their site but again many are not interested.

Do other people find this?

Not knowing you or what you do it's impossible to say....

But we regularly 'blank' enquiries from companies and individuals we just don't like the look of..

I be selling sports cams

I wanted to sell an USA camera but after a couple of mails they stopped writing, I asked them politely if they are not interested in supplying me to let me know so I can look else where, waited a few days, but still no reply

Approached a couple of companies in the UK no reply

Ordered a batch from Hong Kong but still could do with a different type

If they do not want my money fine but be nice and let me know, people who blank enquiries are just incredibly rude in my opinion and probably not worth dealing with anyway

Well, in our case it's usually because the enquiry's coming from someone known to have caused others problems, or somone who's been 'blackballed' for another reason...

The latter's quite common in the creative industries because of the number of 'moonlighters'... It's a tacit 'message'...

In your case I really couldn't say what the problem is. Are you trying to 'short circuit' a more conventional supply route?

What kind of email address are you contacting them with? Sometimes emails from free accounts like yahoo and hotmail can get dropped into the junkmail folder automatically.

Maybe your best approach would be to call them, then they can hear you're a real person.

That's a VERY good point actually.... Do you have your own domaine name/email address...

I do not think so, I am just making enquires iif there are distributors in the chain then it would be nice to be put in touch with them

Call them, hmmm, I guess I can try that, been doing most of the organizing this time of the day but I shall try and find a few minutes tomorrow to do that thanks

No used my personal email address - ntl - at first since buying a domain name I recontacted most using the business name, but stil no answer

Not to worry, launch on Monday with the bits of stock I have and see what happens, its only a PT business for now but the site looks a bit bare.

As for the sports web sites I got in touch with I clicked a advertise with use link on their site :|:|:|

I can understand blanking people you know to be unreliable though

I have always found the Americans in particular keen to do business even with new companies. What I also like is their complete lack of the 'I am the MD so don't bother me' attitude shown by UK big business. That is if you ever got through to one.

You want to do business with this USA camera company. Phone and ask to speak to the Vice President of sales & marketing and tell the telephonist you are calling from the UK. You will be amazed at the response you get.

As someone who ignores around two dozen such emails on a daily basis, allow me to explain.

If I spent time responding to every cold email, regardless of how clueless the email's sender sounds, it would take up around 1-1.5 extra hours a day (don't forget, I'll reply, then they'll reply etc). This is time I'd much rather spend doing useful work.

I quickly screen emails. If they are from a company, they get read. If the company seems credible, they get a reply. The vast majority are deleted without a reply.

If you are contacting USA this week - no surprise they have stopped replying as the whole country stops for Thanksgiving. I would wait until next week (poss week after) and contact them again. Some companies are a bit wary of new businesses without a track record but should be OK with you paying up front for a while.

I have to agree, don't take the lack of response personally. With our martial arts (http://www.paragonmartialarts.co.uk) retail business we get a few dozen speculators, scam artists, foreign manufacturers and cold-call emails daily which all get deleted without a moments consideration.

If you want to be taken seriously, phone the business up and ask to speak to whoever is in charge or marketing / procurement, or at least get a name to address your subsequent email to.

Some years ago I had a misfortune of going into a local agency looking to be placed in a job, the guy, the owner did not give me a minute treating me like sh!t

Few years on I got a job managing a company department from which the above agency got a large chunk of its business.

Do your emails which you send out make as much sense as your posts?

If you had a brain cell you would figure out what the post is about.

Fact is if your ignoring enquiries/people how do you know what your missing out on.

Another way to put it, don't treat people badly on the way up as you might meet them on the way down.

I don't treat them badly, I ignore them. It's really the only viable option in many situations.
