View Full Version : How much of a saving is a good / worthwhile saving?

Hi,

I have just given two quotes over the last few days to businesses who use alot of toner - and I have been able to lower their spend (oem products)by at least around £5 for each toner which is much much lower than what they were paying for (miles cheaper than PC World and Viking Direct) and yet they say it's not enough to justify changing suppliers.

How much of a saving is a good saving? Have any of you given fantastic quotes but have been told it's not enough?

for alot of companies it depends how much they would actually save on a monthly basis, if they use 4 per month but have the hassle of getting toner from one supplier and all other office stationary from another they may not consider it worthwhile. However if they are already using multiple suppliers they might just be pushing to get a bit more knocked off.

Thanks for replying.

I do plan to sell stationery soon anyway so it make it slightly easier to get bigger businesses on board in that I can offer them everything from one place.

One other question I should have asked is do business hunt for better deals like they do for products for home? Like they surf the net for cheaper products for home / personal use, do they do that for business? If not - why not?

Keep your thoughts coming.

Hi Jay,

Perhaps the easiest way of answering this is to reflect upon how many calls you get (whether business or home) from telecommunications carriers wanting your business. We all get them, both mobile and landline.

From my perspective, I'm happy with the carriers I have. Even when an offer is put to me that may be cheaper than I'm currently paying, my deciding factor is one, perhaps not of loyalty, but more of 'fearing to test the unknown.' If I was presented with a ripping offer from, say, 'Joe's Communications' I would be hesitant to move simply because the service may not be as good. Of course this is a perception, but maybe also in conjunction with it being too much of a hassle to change (accounts etc).

The scenario would be totally different had I been let down by my current supplier. Then I would move without hesitation.

Cheers, Nigel

Good point - my reticence about changing stationery suppliers would be that:
a) There are multiple people ordering stationery & they are rubbish at changing habits!
b) This would generate multiple invoices from multiple suppliers making it harder to track what was actually being spent.
c) Even if you save money on one product e.g. toner, in my experience you almost certainly lose it on other products, so the savings are negligible...
d) And then the complaints start "Why can't I have Pink PostIt notes?" "Where are all the NICE pens?" "why have we got this nasty coffee??" "I don't want to use the same envelopes as the Accounts dept - I want MY envelopes!!!"

Hassle factor is high!!!
