Hi
I use NFU (national farmers union), been with them 6 years now and have been fine. Google them, for details..not got their number on me.

Your best bet is to find a good broker. Commercial insurance is very competitive at the moment - I've just renewed at about 30% less than last year, and got a 3 year deal. But the worst quote on the market was 40% more than last year, so it really does work to get a broker to shop around for you.
PM me if you want details of our broker.

I got the NFU through Drysdale brokers, this was the best one for us. I thought if he went direct he could save a bit of cash :D

A bit of a heads up for you all.
By day I work for a large motor insurance company (the one with annoying elephant) and after the events in Hertfordshire I can tell you its going to have an affect on premiums for all types of insurance, especially business insurance.
It was the same after 9/11, such a huge amount of claim takes a lot of money out of the pot that all insurance companies use.
So buy before it goes up.

So I assume I don't HAVE to be a farmer to use NFU?

I insure my bakery (including public liability) and my caravan...they also do car insurance etc.

To make sure you are all aware, I also work for an insurer (one without an elephant and not the NFU).
I must say that I have very mixed feelings about the NFU - they are a very "traditional" insurer who are struggling to adopt modern practices however when I delt with them in my capacity as a claims handler they certainly did come across as representing their clients best interest - that is when someone else wasnt using the one computer in the office.
The best thing you can do is go to a broker. Commercial insurance is much more complicated than your home or car policy and the broker will be able to advise you on the policies themselves as well as getting you the price. Also remember that with many types/ sizes of policies for commercial that you dont get a quote within a few seconds of handing over all your details.
