We spend approximately £800 per month on sales but thats mainly Mailshots and some cold calls.

Any other ideas of Sales methods ?

What do you spend per month ?

Thanks

we dont really have a set budget per month

at the moment it is more based on needs at the time

this is more a failing on my part - when we need money i spend money to make some money!! (wont win any awards for this style of marketing i know)

as we move into 2006 it is an area i am going to address to get extra continuity from month to month

back to the point, to get an answer to your question you will need to wait until the end of 2006. I assume you were looking for a more short term answer!! sorry :(

Most companies I have worked with spend around 1 to 2% of turnover on marketing.

These are established businesses, if they were in start up or high growth mode then the figure would obviously be different.

It depends what you mean by "marketing". If you're talking of the total sales costs - then it's likely to be a hell of a lot more than 2% of t/o.

My company turns over £7m-£8m and our total sales & marketing spend is over £1m. Because we buy and sell companies we get to see loads of management accounts from different companies. I reckon 20% would be fairly average. Seems to me that most of the companies on UKBF tend to use the Internet to a large degree. Depending on the sector, internet marketing (which is cheap) will get the company so far. However, to make it bigger, in most sectors, it needs telesales, advertising, PR, direct-mail, etc..etc..

I was talking specifically about marketing costs, not Cost of Sales which I would agree tend to be around 25% of turnover and I have seen higher than 30%.

I would kill for a sales budget! So that answers that one, we have none.

That said we're packed out until March on reputation alone, so it's can't be that bad.
