Hi,

Is the best way to encourage people to sign up to a mailing list by offering an incentive such as a monthly prize?

We really need to build a database.

Depends on your target audience. You're taking your first steps into a world called "permission marketing". Take a look at the book "Permission Marketing" by Seth Godin for some great stuff that might help you to get into the minds of your potential customers. It might even be free on the internet somewhere - Seth does that from time to time.

Hi there.
I have a mailing list at each of the events I attend and I do enter them into a prize draw. It is a great way to build a list of contacts, as they are pre-qualified (you already know they like your jewellery or they wouldn't enter). I think its best to include a way for people to be removed from the list in all communication.
