Check out my website and see what you think. My 'web developer' promised me the earth and up to now I'm nowhere on that Google search engine. Any tips???

Welcome to the forums. I've not had a chance to say hello yet!
The site looks good. Your web developer shouldn't have promised you anything to do with Google, unless he owns it he can't control it. Even those that do own it have little control over who appears where to any significant degree.
To get anywhere on google takes time. A new website can wait anything from 9 to 12 months to get a decent ranking
You are number 1 in MSN for "debt collection in bolton" (without the quotes) and #1 on yahoo if you remove the word "in".
