Hi All

Many apologies for not posting for a while.

The business in question was an idea from a mate of mine who is sadly deceased. He put the idea to me as he wanted an objective opinion and to use my business address as a drop for deliveries whilst he was setting up. This will be a catering business and I only have general admin experience of (of course) eating food. The idea seems sound, although I want to do a bit more market research and find out about the industry generally (especially qualifications, hygiene, safety, planning). Would anyone be able to point me in roughly the right direction?

Do you know nothing about that particular industry or just the business?

In general, it's not a good idea to start a business in a field about which you know nothing. Take a part-time job in that industry first to find out what it's all about. You may find you love it - or you may find you hate it. Plus, you'll learn the information that will be critical to success.

Having said that, there are some wonderful stories at these forums of people who started in a new area and did amazingly well - so what do I know? :)

First of you need to draft a general plan.
Do your research....there's lots of competition out there so you need to know your competition and your market.
What sort of food is it? What is the USP? How do you intend to manage the business and get finance.
Start brainstorming!
PM me if you need more help!

Hi,

I own a bakery, cafe and sandwich shop. We have done catering, wedding cakes and most food types of things over the years.

If I can help in any way, ask away :D
