Hi

I have just booked a few events with BL Yorkshire. Very exciting and scary moment for me! So, I booked for:

-How to turn your website into a customer magnet?
-Exploring self employment
-SEO - gain a high ranking on Google
-Marketing your new business
-Producing your business plan

Has anyone ever been to their events? What are they like?

Hi,

I've been to some too and agree - really good. Usually well attended so take plenty of business cards to network.

I haven't been to any of the ones you mention but the session leaders I have met have all been well informed and experienced in their subject.

And if you go to any of the inspirational speaker events, check the catering! I went to the James Martin event at the York railway museum and we were given a top class 2 course buffet. This hadn't been advertised and quite a few people had already eaten!

Not sure if I agree it's good use of taxpayer's money, but it was a very enjoyable.

Have fun

Alison

Hi Daiso

Yes I've been to a few now and always find them useful, in fact I went to one earlier today! As has been said above, it is also worth getting the service of a dedicated business advisor on a one to one basis.

Hope this helps

Richard

I have attended a few Business Link workshops and I have found they are mainly aimed at profit making Commercial Businesses, not Social Enterprises.

Business Link says that their workshops are aimed at new businesses / people thinking of starting up a business. If that is so, then it's about time (in my opinion) Business Link learnt how to explain thinks to it's clientel in plain English instead of the very difficult to understand business jargon they use.

I have not found Business Link helpful and I shall not be attending any future workshops.

I attended 'SEO - gain a high ranking on Google' in Scarborough today and thought it was a worthwhile trip. The first part was a rather dry but the second bit where the presenter gave his thoughts on raising your Google ranking were interesting and I came away with some good ideas.

Hello,

A bit late to the party here, but I thought I would chime in. I have been to several Business Link events recently, with a few more to come. I have been concentrating my efforts to the eBusiness side of things.

I have taken away many golden nuggets of information from these events. True, at times it gets a bit long in the tooth. I think that is because at the time, they are speaking about things I already have a grasp on. That's not there fault though. A number of times it has just spawned new ideas of my own that I formulated in the middle of a discussion with the presenter or others in the group.

They are a great tool! Take advantage of anything that you think may help you.

Best wishes,

Dave

Hurray!!! It seems I've made an impression somewhere, my Business Link Advisor has started to take my business idea serious at last.
The Advisor has, within the past few weeks, spent a great deal of time preparing a proposal (no they haven't asked for my hand in marriage), and I have agreed to meet their proposal.

So fingers crossed for a brighter future for my business and a better business relationship between Business Link and myself.

I'm attending a workshop in Doncaster on Tuesday 16/03/10, the workshop is; "Are you the barrier for business growth?" Is anyone else here attending that workshop? If so, I look forward to meeting you.
