Is it still typically a 2 week wait for instalation of broadband from date of order to when it's live and ready to use?

I waitied a week with plus.net to switch from one account to them.
The company I was desperate to lead (telecom plus) told me there would be 14 days downtime if I left them - plusnet disagreed and said they could do it with no downtime - and they were right :)

Good to hear. I am with plus.net now. I'm havinng a new phoneline installed somewhere else and I'm planning to get them to provide the broadband. (very happy with them).
I think the delay is due to line testing to make sure it's suitable for broadband - this wouldn't have applied if you were switching providers. I might still be in for a 2 week wait then!

I maybe being naive but if thats what plusnet have told you then it's probably true :)

I haven't rung them yet. I've only just ordered the new line and can't order the BB until the line is connected.
It's been well over a year since I last ordered broadband and was just hoping the lead times had improved.

Well in that case I got my father connected with plusnet in 1 week :)

If I recall correctly, it's typically 5 working days from the time your ISP places the order with BT until your line should be enabled.
It often happens a day or two before the official date, so if your 'synch' light goes solid (usually), and you've got your login details your good to go.
Most ISP's take longer than 5 days of course. Zen Internet are very good if you're in a hurry (I've got links with this company, but it's true!).

I have just moved house and had my broadband transferred. I use Nildram - and they quoted 10 days but it was up and running 3 days early (maybe 4 - I didn't try the line on Saturday).
I had to wait 48 hours once the phone line was connected before I could request the ADSL transfer. I think the ISP has little to do - it's BT who control delivery dates.

p.s. will probably move from Nildram to Zen when the dust has settled.
