Hi, I am currently working on a project with a small group called GetGiving, working with PayPal and MissionFish to release a smartphone application that facilitates making donations to charity in seconds.
We have developed the App (integrating PayPals adaptive payments API) with simplicity and convenience in mind so that a donation can be made within seconds and just a few screens.
Our website is set to go live in the next few days, and MissionFish will be presenting our work to the Innovate 09 conference in San Francisco this week.
We are working very hard to bring this app into fruition by the start of 2010, and are confident that this will revolutionise the way charities receive payments.
Our vision is that when someone is engaged or inspired by a charity advert or campaign, by using their Iphone, Blackberry etc, they can quickly make their donation, wherever they are.
For example, if someone sees a great charity advert at the bus stop, that moves them to make a contribution, whether it be one pound or 50 pounds, it can happen within seconds, rather than waiting to get home to their PC, by which time they may have forgotten or lost the connection they had with the message of the charity.
The Smartphone marketing is booming, and with the Iphone Appstore alone worth 3bn dollars, it is clear to see that this is the future for making donations to charity as well as consumer purchases (e.g Amazon 1Click).
Our website will launch this week (I can update you when it does) and it would be great to hear your thoughts on what we think is a very exciting move for the future of micro donations.
Anyway thanks for reading and please feel free to get in touch if you have any queries or comments for us, it'd be great to trade ideas and have a chat with likeminded people.
Thanks
Sam

The webiste is great - but, who are you?
Where are you based - how does anyone contact you, apart from email.
Unless I have missed something on the site (apologies of so) it could be a scam to the onlooker.
Could you please tell me more?

Hi, well I'm glad you asked. We are a small group based in Surrey, working on this app for PayPal and MissionFish. Paypal has just released its new adaptive payments API and we are using that technology for our App. Most people are using the API for commercial products, but we are using it to help charities get donations in quickly and simply.
There's not a lot more to say other than we're just developing the app now for a release at the start of 2010, and at the moment are talking to the charities (using MissionFish database) about getting them onboard.
The website explains everything very well and also has a 'how it works' section with screen shots of the app.
It's not a scam just some passionate people trying to spread the word about a means to give to charity quickly, simply and from any location!
Thanks
Sam

The email address is enquiries at getgiving dot co dot uk The reason I didn't submit that is because as a new user I'm not allowed to post URLs yet.
We are not a charity, we are a piece of software working in conjunction with charities to help them receive donations.
PayPal has just released it's new technology this week allowing this to happen.
I don't think it's that strange asking people to take a look at something that is helping other people, but maybe that's just me.
Thanks
Sam

Having my own RC I am very vary of so called 'donations' to your favourite Charity, followed by a paypal link (which to be honest can be paid anywhere).
Will the paypal link if people choose to donate go straight to the RC, will there be a receipt available from said RC?
Will the RC details come up when people donate - or will it be your companys details?
Based in Surrey - surely you have an office address?
If you are passionate about what you are doing, then there would be no harm in providing details.
Will the RC you are advocating carry your link and the details of donating on their website?
And as asked my another member where is your Charity Number?

I believe I already posted that we are not a charity, we are an app that makes donations to charities.
I also think our website makes a lot of your questions clear.
We were contacted to do this by PayPal after attending a charity hack at Ebays offices in September and we all work from different places. We're not a big company making money, we're small team doing this in amongst other projects because it can make a real difference to the future of giving to charity.
The charities themselves would link to us. E.g if you saw a poster for a charity that worked with us, at the bottom where it gave details of how to donate, one of those mentioned would be our logo etc.
Having spoke to a lot of people about this project I'm surprised at the scepticism shown by you. For example, one poster above contacted us, and we are meeting next week to add his skill set into helping this work, which we are very grateful for.
Thanks for your interest in GetGiving and please do check out the website if you have time.

So,you are a software developer, working on an app, that you are either selling,or giving away free to people with a smartphone,to enable them to give to whatever charity they select on the app.
Why did you not just say that in the first place ?
I would perhaps use it if it was free in Itunes, but certainly not from a website.
Are Itunes interested in it at all ?

I think the first post in the thread, which I posted a few days go, details most of this?
We're not trying to sell anything to you, or anyone on these forums, I was simply asking for a bit of feedback on our website etc on what is a great idea for assisting charities. We're not a software developer (one member of our team is) we're a small group who were asked to take on this project by PayPal, as I did mention.
This would be a free app on smartphones, being released at the start of 2010. The website currently just encloses the concept of GetGiving, for people to have a look at before the App is launched in January.
I suggest you also see PayPals website and their new X website to see what they're doing for developers and the new payments systems they are introducing on smartphones etc, which are very safe and reliable.

Sorry for the confusion everyone, but I did mention all of these things at the beginning, and the website also explains it clearly, which is what I was referring you towards. We just wanted to get some opinions from people about the site and any more ideas they might have to make this project as effective as possible.
My thanks to Nick for getting in touch and offering to help us out.

You'll be able to download it from the Apple Appstore or the Blackberry Appworld, etc and other various Application stores which vary from platform to platform, straight onto your smartphone.
I won't be online again tonight but if you have any feedback or queries I'll be happy to chat about those tomorrow.
Thanks
