Recently I have looked at the possibilty of online marketing, i'm trying to find a niche in the Market too fill.
But my question is, would you recomend i start by simply using eBay, or by starting an ecommerce site and getting traffic from search engines etc.
I'm currently a computer programmer so perhaps an ecommerce package to start with and then I could use my skills to build from their (if neccesary)
Hope anyone can shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance, Dan

I suppose it really depends on what you want to sell.
I would really think twice about using ebay because of the huge listing fees and the percent paypal take.
It it were me I would go for your own site. You can get very good hosting from www.vidahost.com and there are plenty of free eCommerce packages like:
- Cubecart
- PrestaShop
- OpenCart
- Zencart
- OSCommerce
Let me know if you need more help :)

Hi,
I've recently set up an e-commerce website which offers a free dropshipping service to dropshippers in the U.S.. I am of course based in the UK, and I act as a middle man.. Its going great, I am a dropshipper and have chosen to offer dropshipping to others. This way I never get to see the product, and if people choose to buy for themselves all the same..
Its very cheap and is not very time consuming at all, apart from the start up. It can generate a great income providing you either have your own products or find a cheap/free dropshipping service to use..
Take a quick look at my site, i've never designed a website or built one before and I think its not bad for a first effort its so simple.. With your background and knowledge of computer software and programming, getting one off the ground should be a piece of cake..
Take care

I build my stores using zencart which is open source. There are lots of other open source alternatives to help reduce cost. Most are very customisable especially if you have programming skills.
Can't speak of ebay but with your own store, you can do very well if you find a good niche and good supplier.

If you have the resources, you start with a simple ecommerce package or website.
