Currently looking for a new laptop, but:

- checked the Vaio website, and it says 3-4 weeks delivery. Huh?
- Apple Macbook pro - nice but pricey
- Dell - usually shipped full of crap unneeded software

Ideally I'd like to get a Vaio for the specs I'm looking for, but the PC World website doesn't stock anything near the specs I'm after (good processor, min 4GB good RAM)

Looking for stockists who might be able to provide one within days rather than weeks - any recommendations?

I'm looking for one at the moment. We tend to go to Aria or CPC.

Hmm...all Aria's laptops seem to offer Vista onl?

yep, often with an XP downgrade! lol
Seriously I'm likely to buy mine there as we've bought most of our IT stuff from them in the past.

why do you insist people have an account just to *look* at what you have to offer ?

Hi Peterjhale,

We mainly deal with education so the website is basically setup for those customers, our website is a weakest point but we are a IT broker so like a IT personal shopper that goes on the hunt for what you want and comes back to you with credible solutions so if your looking for a solution pm me the problem and we will go on the hunt for you,

hope that explains for you,

I actually find Dell to be decent - yes, they come with crap stuff installed (although nowhere near as much as they used to) but you can always uninstall it.

As a Dell Premier Partner we have put a massive amount of units into the public sector including schools and councils and one of the first requests is to have the bulkware removed which Dell have no problem in doing
The only problem with Dell is the lead times which can range from 7-10 to 3 weeks

If you know what you want then go back to PC World (or ring them) and ask to speak to their Business Manager (most stores have one).

They can provide a specification to your requirements and have more variety than on the shelves and can install other software too (XP instead of Vista/7 and different versions of Office/Outlook etc).

It's a more bespoke service, you don't have to have an account or set one up (or be a business) and you can usually get everything delivered within 7 days.

You'll get more info speaking to them in store - but try this for starters: www.pcwb.co.uk (http://www.pcwb.co.uk)

Or you could just spread the love in the forum and use a reseller here who will make sure you get what you need when you need it and beat pc world pricing:p

No, I have a friend who's a manager at one of their better performing stores (for his sins). I know there's a stigma about dealing with PC World (and the like) and I wouldn't want to take business away from you, but I do know that the PCW Business Centres are very good and usually have people in them trained to a much higher standard (well, they do at his)!

I use a company called Europc for all the company's computers. They have a wide range of manufaturers machines in stock so you can get it next day all spec'd up and delivered. Prices are good too and I think that they are still doing their "buy now pay in 12 months" for sales over £300.

Colin be sure next time to give us a shout for a comparison quote as we have been known to beat Europc's pricing on numerous occaisons as we can also offer business financing,;)
