Banked a load of cheques and some CASH in the branch on Saturday and as of tonight still no sign of it when I go online. I'm sure it'll be fine but who has had the benefit of MY cash since Saturday:| Every single time I've banked in the past, the credited amounts show up online next working day. Oh well:rolleyes:

Check with your bank in the morning, but there has been a meltdown today in various banks software and ATM are not working etc, so it might be a glitch with that, otherwise ask your branch to check their holding account, the place they put amounts they cant reconcile with account numbers etc.

Sounds like Nat West as well as Barclays and HSBC has been hit by the wonder bug today as well then!

ah right ta Gillie, now I think about it, going online tonight went a bit funny with the log in. No doubt the branch staff will be dealing with an onslaught of complaints tomorrow:)

Barclays have been all over the shop today! An automated payment on our debit card failed so I rang thinking it was fraud and the lady said "we've had problems with our ATMs which could also affect online banking, and using your card online too" - the honesty was appreciated :D (if a slight pain as my debit card is used to pay all sorts of things, and the backup is of course my colleague's card, at the same bank)

Moved (or at least tried to) some money from a Nationwide account to another online bank account recently. Fast track clearing only up to £10, so without my Nationwide card (or the patience to make numerous transactions - a bit late anyway when a lot was moved into that dark place the banks keep our money in the meantime), I was left up the creek.

Tried something similar with Abbey last week - they at least signed up to the Fast track clearing... but now opted out, and tell you when you transfer the money that it will arrive in your own other bank account in four working days! The advisor I later spoke to actually denied they ever offered a fast track service (security reasons), and their manager suggested I shouldn't even expect an answer to my question (why is it no longer on fast track?) for 48 hours - because the call centre gets calls on a Friday, so is too busy to give people answers!:|

Banks are still taking a free ride with our money. At least some of them, I can transfer or deposit money, and it's in the other account before I'm logged out of the first one, but others... taking the bodily fluids we discharge.

(HSBC & Natwest accounts still appear to be immediate (although cheques into Natwest take time to appear online), but my other accounts will have less deposits now.)

Is it not the case that anything banked on a Saturday is treated as though it's banked on a Monday and so it wouldn't show on your account until they've updated overnight and you'll see it on Tuesday morning ? Only cash will show instantly. I fairly sure that's how the banking system works - or certainly Nat Wests

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that your deposit has gone missing. I have twice had cheques deposited at the counter lost by the branch in question (both times Nat West, different branches). The first ones turned up a few weeks later - they claim they were unable to process them until someone pointed out that they were missing - I thought this a little odd since they clearly have the name of the customer on the top line which should be a hint. They did however eventually credit them and also credit the missing 3p interest or whatever nominal amount it was.

Then, lo and behold, the same thing happened a month later, only this time they never showed up. When I put in a complaint I was gobsmacked to hear that they had no intention to reimburse me and told me to ask the cheque issuers to re-issue a new cheque. I pointed out I had no record of the cheques, and that I also had a nat west receipt for the deposit, but still they didnt budge. I have subsequently had to ask my solicitors to write, but have heard nothing back yet.

It seems the only point they are making is that there is a "chance" that the cheques might not be honoured, so they are not hard cash, but at the end of the day, that does not give them the right to write them off at zero.

Has anyone got any smart ideas as to how to approach it from here?
