View Full Version : Site Design - Comments on Draft Version Please

Hi All
I've decided to make a new site around my www.betterchances.com domain and Jerboa Design have started putting together a draft site for me to check.
You may remember from introductions that they made the following websites which I thought were great http://www.twinkletoes.uk.net and http://www.dragonhotel.co.uk
Alwyn has given me permission to get feedback on the DRAFT version. Which can be found at http://www.jerboadesign.com/TestSite/
With the help of Alwyn I'm trying to create something that is a bit more fun, but with a corporate feel. That gets away from Lottery - instant scam like most sites give.
I like the actually e-lottery website vey much, however for me to get good traffic ratings and to make it more personal I've decided to get a landing site which then links to the e-lottery site.
Can you give me some feedback and thoughts
Thanks very much!!
Lisa

It does look corporate and professional. The spacing on the man body text is a bit strange though - the letters feel too wide apart.
Personally I like my site to fill my screen.
I would imagine there are accessibility problems with the way the menu is set up.
I'm not a fan of animations which don't really add to the content as they are distracting.
Great URL unlike Twinkletoes.uk.net the extention of which is tricky to remember and makes it seem a bit low cost.
I would imagine this site will be successful.

Hi Lisa,
A vast improvement on some of the other 'landers' I've seen.
The links aren't working; I guess that's because it's still in draft stage.
I like the layout and presentation.
Do you have access to a 'better' testimonial than £752 in 90 draws? In my mind it's not that inspiring, and doesn't make a new prospect think 'the big one must be close.'
A final point is the font in the main text body. To me it seems 'wishy washy'. Perhaps the main heading could be bolder, and a 'tighter' font used - that (arial?) is extremely hard to read.
Overall, I'm impressed and would be proud to have www.lottopounds.co.uk be represented with such a site, if, of course, you would be prepared to offer it with a minimal fee!
Cheers, Nigel

Thanks for your comments! Alwyn has recieved an email with modification requests!
Your right Nigel the £800 Lotto win is no where near as good as some of the other wins recieved by members (like 2 x £3500 cheques by the one syndicate member - shame he looks like the grim ripper!). I'm looking now for a replacement. I agree with the text and have asked to have it changed and also the banner top left!

Ref using it yourself, it would be a perk for my team members (So no probs) - I'll let you know once its finished!

hi there
now, firstly, a lottery should be done for a bit of fun, so corporate is a no no. you dont see national lottery adverts with a corprate image d o you. i realise you are not advertising the national lottery, but it is after all, a lottery
secondly, think how oyu can make the site fun and exilarating, push the fact that they could win loads, but more importantly , push the THRILL of the chance of winning a load of cash to spend on what they want.
put a picture of joe bloggs, quoting he bought a cool car, or a holiday in barbados, selling a service like this is all about what it can bring the customer, not a load of rubbish on the odds and why they should do it, this is second nature to what the thrill is.
in marketing, people need to be made a suggestion, given an image of the benefits of something, not told that you have a %3600 chance of winning, as this is just stating info which which will allow them to scrutinise the odds and think, well if its that good, then why isnt everyone doing it
i wouldnt suggest stating that 'this is like no other syndiacte you have played in before', because if they have, then chances are that they have lost, say, THIS IS LIKE NO OTHER SYNDICATE. period (chances are, that if they have played in another syndicate then they would have lost, but if they havent, your comment puts into their mind that syndicates in general are shite. all syndiactes say what you are saying)
push the fact that they can win in all the countries, push the fact that they only have to spend a couple of quid to get the car joe bloggs has, push the fact that they will be part of a large group that will share the money, but above all, make it fun, not corporate, after all, your audience is the run of the mill joe bloggs, not managing director of the next company.
anyhow, good luck, hope this helps

I agree with DeveloperBloke. Here is a comment from a CEO!
When you do add your contact details suggest you add all of them to make the site more honest. Surfers are nowadays more cautious, or is it just me, my over-cautious self!
"in the last 90 draws I have won £752.44" - does seem to imply that the person had won that amount for each and every draw up to the 90th. I would remove the number of draws unless if you wish to emphasise a point then why not state how much he spent up to and including the 90th draw.
Do you plan to have terms and conditions and disclaimer. I know it is an 'informal' site but I have seen too many syndicates end up in Court. Just to protect yourself. Not come across many sites like this so not sure if this would contravene the gambling legislation.
Hope the above appear constructive :)

Thank you for your feedback. I will make amendments to suit.
I look at the site as a landing page, I bit more personal (with my details.) If/when people do decide to join they will be forwarded to the signup page on the e-lottery (currently www.betterchances.co.uk website)
The landing page should hope fully allow make to get some decent 'search engine results' and give a personal feeling aswell

It looks a little bit like every other "get rich quick" Web site in the world. Picture of man, in front of prestige motor, holding cheque etc.
You could easily substitute the words "cleaning products" for "lottery" and people wouldn't know the difference!

Hi Lisa,
With this you can…
Prospect for new members using proven autoresponder emails, adverts and viral marketing.
What the heck is 'viral' marketing? I've NEVER sold a fence with it! Is it supposed to be 'virtual' marketing.
Become a Player Member and we instantly allocate you one of 39-places in a EURO SYNDICATE, emailing you confirmation with a E-Lottery Membership
As a pedantic point, this should read 'with an E Lottery etc.
Become an Affialiate Member
Typo!
Should be, well, you know!
PLUS, I would much prefer to see the red page headings in bold, as previously mentioned.
The whole thing is working well. I hope 'Developer Bloke' rallies to assist you also!
Cheers, Nigel

Can you defend this statement if you need to?
"In fact, so huge an advantage you have a massive 702% greater chance of scooping a UK National Lotto jackpot and an even better 3,600% greater chance of scooping a EuroMillions jackpot!"
the obvious question is 'than what?'
Someone is going to ask it; possibly the Advertising Standards people ;-)

This bit makes me chuckle:
"How have we arrived at those odds?
Well, we could show you the computations, but for simplicity, best just to say that the figures aren’t ours; we consulted a university Professor of Mathematics to work them out for us when developing the system."
In other words - anyone with half a brain cell would be able to see right trough it if we actually showed you how we arrived at these odds!

OK,
I like the way this is heading, but I'm not sure why you are doing this.
If its a front for VWD then why not use their outstanding affiliate platform, unless you dont trust them?
Or is it a case that you are looking to capitalise to a greater extent on the downline than the amounts offered direct by VWD.
Or is the e-lottery logo similarites just that, and this is an independent venture.
Personally I would go down the indy route, I have crunched the numbers on the VWD scheme and think that there is a huge need for a good UK based lotto syndicate system, as VWD is expensive with I feel excessive overrides.
I was inspired by what they did, and created a similar site a while back which in 30 days had over 10,000 active mobile users from around the globe without any real promotion, shame my ringtone and logo agreement melted down. Multi tier schemes are easyish to build and grow very rapidly when done right.
Food for thought, hopefully.

Well the site was designed to offer a simpler overview of the main lottery syndicate site. Also this will allow me to gain a better search engine placment and allow me to track where viewers are visiting from. I really like the main lottery syndicate site, it is well put together and yes I do trust them, you'll will see my site is an imbetween site for the aformentioned reasons.
Regarding the Advertising Standards comment. Well the contact details for VWD are easily obtained from the contacts page. VWD has been established for over 3 years and is governed by the UK Lotteries Council. Feel free to contact either party if your not happy and report the site.
The good thing I now find, when people look at the site, they investigate it further. Most internet users and infact most UK citizens are aware of dodgy Nigerian and other lottery scams. So they look in depth before joining and understand exactly what they are getting. Thats why I think the drop out is really low.

I think it is a good idea to have a different approach to other sites. You are looking at a niche which is good.
However I simply don't believe in lottery things like this. There is only so much prize money given out each week and it is totally random. I cannot believe it is possible to cheat the system and for everybody to get out more than they put in. If it was possible the lottery would close in approximately one week.
There are a few lucky winners but most just keep paying their £1 for nothing with the occasional tenner to keep them interested.

I made the comment only to point out that you need to be ready with your answer if you are challenged and you obviously are. I have absolutley no intention of contacting anybody or reporting your site. Yikes!
I did pricing for BT for many years. Everytime we made even the slightest claim that we might be cheaper, better, faster or whatever, some ******** would write to Ofcom and complain (usually a competitor not even a customer)
Just trying to help out objectively as requested, not criticise your business!
