Hi all,
Could anyone let me have a 'Health and safety statement' which would 'typically' be used by a company? I could draft one up, but if someone can do a 'cut and paste' for me I'd be grateful.
Cheers, Nigel

How the heck do you reply so quick?
No, not that great big thing; that's the H & S laws. I need a policy statement, usually to the effect of, XYZ ltd has effected a policy to safeguard all employees from injury bu way of etc, etc, etc,
Thanks Jayne

It's not as simple as that.
You will also need to do Risk Assessments, and whilst there are some good generic ones around, they will need to relate to what your company actually does. Guessing from your username that would certainly have to include a Manual Handling Risk Assessment.
How many employees do you have? If it's 5 or more then you should have an H&S Policy and the Risk Assessments, but if it's less you don't need the policy.
You might consider joining the Forum of Private Business. Their H&S Manual, which comes free with membership, will help you sort this out properly, and is well worth the cost of membership.
Check your liability insurances, many insurers are insisting on Risk Assessments, and you might find something about this in the fine print.

Hi Nigel,
If you let me have your email address, I will forward a copy of a 'typical' H & S Statement that may be of use to you.

Your health and safety policy statement is the starting point to managing health and safety in the workplace and sets out how you manage health and safety in your organisation. It is a unique document that shows who does what; and when and how they do it.
If you have five or more employees you will need to have a written health and safety policy statement. This should set out how you manage health and safety in your organisation.
If you are lstill ooking for a health and safety policy, I would advise you to contact the HSE on 01787881165 or at their web site of www.hse.gov.uk and ask for INDG 259 an introduction to health and safety this will provide you with a statement and policy in which you fill in the blank sections - sign, date it and comminicate to your staff and you are compliant. Just remember to review it and update it as required. Any problems email me at douglas@valkyriesupportservices.co.uk
