Hi Guys,

I'm completely new to this site. I am a fully trained graphic designer who's had experience using Dreamweaver and other web design software. I'm pretty computer literate and I'm also an enthusiastic digital photographer.

I've recently been seriously considering dipping my toe into the online business sea/world. Most of my original business ideas centered around products that could be digitally distributed (downloaded) PDF, Audio and Video, but the recent explosive spread of bit torrent and file sharing make that route all but pointless.

What I'm wondering is how man of you arrived at your idea for an online business. Brainstorming, Mind Maps, throwing a dart?

Any advice would be most welcome,
simon

Are you saying that you think selling digital downloads is obsolete because people illegally share the software with bit torrent so once one person has bought it everyone else gets it for free?

If so, I disagree and wouldn’t say it to be obsolete. It is now easier for people who intend to obtain something without paying for it to do so, but it doesn’t mean other honest people won’t buy the download and pay for what you are selling instead of obtaining something illegally. It will reduce your sales, but not make it obsolete. If you are selling something that businesses use, they will pay for what you are selling if they need to use it because it is not in their interest to use illegal software/content in their business.

I imagine many of the best ideas for new businesses come from people who first look for someone else providing a service, and then discover that its not available.

Precisley what my new idea is! Having said that it could mean that there is no need for it?

OP, what are you interested in? How about website graphics on an eccomerce basis? Not something you see? Maybe because it is pointless but still!

Its about finding a niche in the market for me or finding something that solves a problem and has a commercial value.

The digital sector is a great example of solution solving businesses that crop up and are generating large volumes of turnovers - from copywriters to people selling links on websites...
