Hey everyone!
You've probably all seen me about on these forums, I'm on quite often, but I'd just like to introduce myself.
My name's Liam and I think I'm the youngest person on here at 14 (Not sure though) Although many of you wont take me seriously because of my age, I find these forums very interesting because of the wealth of experience you guys have. So I've not got much experience, but I do have alot of time to invest!
Any advice any of you could give me in general about the business world would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks alot, I hope to hear from you soon
Liam.

Hi Liam
Welcome and well done for getting off your bum and doing something positive.
I would just like to ask what do you hope to gain in particular from this forum? And do you operate your own business already.
When I was 10 I recycled newspapers for £20 a ton, then Blue Peter put an appeal out one xmas for recycled newspapers and that killed it dead. At 12 I was making miniature rocking chairs out of pegs and selling them to retailers. Between 14 & 18 I had a window cleaning round.
In all these ventures I was mocked by some because of my age, but perservered and prospered. In the window cleaning era I was earning more than my Dad for two days work and had to get help to do it. I sold it for £1,000 when I went to college and that was 24 years ago. If I had carried on that rather than getting " a good education" I would probably retired by now.
Good luck, perservere and prosper

hi Liam,
welcome to the forums. dont worry about the age factor. entrepreneurial spirit is valid no matter what the age. not only that but it is a good thing to start learning now at the age you are at - it can only lead to great things in the future
have you actually started any kind of business or are you on the forums for the learning experience?
good luck either way and welcome

Thanks for the quick response guys!
This is why I'm on these forums - I didn't actually know I could run a business at such a young age? Has anyone got any ideas as to what I could do? I need something realistic that people would be interested in.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi Liam,
Welcome to the forums. Don't worry about your age, and neither will we.
Unfortunately some people will. Consider an online business where nobody needs to know your age. What are your interests?
If there's ever anything you think I might be able to help with then just drop me a line.
Duane.

Liam,
Welcome :)
Anyone under 20 or over 30 tries to forget their age ;)
If I can help in anyway give me a shout.

Well I'm quite interested in languages, but having looked around I've found that the language industry in saturated, and therefore there isn't much demand currently.
People are saying that I should be starting to run my own small business, but I'm not sure where to start!
Any advice?
Thanks

Hello Liam,
I doubt many people will look down at you because of you age.
It may be a few years yet before you get going with a business of your own but your time here will be very well spent.
If you have any questions - just ask!
Another business forum which might interest you is http://youngentrepreneur.com/ it is a younger business forum of many people like yourself.
It however is mainly people in the USA but some UK and EU members (p.s its not as good as here ;-)

I've been on the YoungEntrepreneur forums, but it's dead! It take's ages for a response, what with America being about 10 hours behind. It's nowhere near a good as here!
Thanks for the response!

Yes, I only gave you the link as an addition to hear.
It actually used to be good, but its gone down hill.
So what you go planned Liam? Any ideas to get yourself in business.
The great thing about being young and in business is you generally have very little outgoing (rent, bills, food cost etc)
So any business you start does not HAVE to make you loads of money as generally you don't need the money to live on.

Liam,
I'm impressed not only with your initiative for joining this forum but also with your writing style. You have a knack for writing succinctly. I hope to learn from your enthusiasm as much as you learn from our experience.
I agree with Rob's comment, and I'm 29.

Welcome Liam, you are the baby of the bunch thats for sure, but some of us are still quite young (I'm 26, but only just).
It's good to see you here, hopefully you can learn from us and we can gain the input of younger eyes to some of our businesses.

Hello Liam,
My name is Arran and I am a young entrepreneur like yourself, well a year older at 15 but that’s nothing these days  I started getting into business when I was around 13.... Just randomly in one maths lesson me and a close friend thought why don't why start our own business ! But as I am sure you know it’s much more complicated than that....
So far we have done a vast amount of things... E.g. importing goods, exporting etc but as someone said previously we have used the net to hide our age in a way I guess.
Currently we are getting into the Job market via starting our own recruitment resource site, www.ejobsite.co.uk. We are very aware of the amount of competition but we believe we can offer an alternative in the form of the amount each business has to pay per vacancy. One of our major competitors is monster.co.uk and they charge around £300!!! :o for just one vacancy advert and I don't know about you, but in my opinion only the larger businesses would be able to afford that. So we are currently developing a way where businesses will pay there subscription for there advert depending on there size. The size would be determined by there net profit or amount of employees.
The key to a successful website is simplicity. And eJobsite.co.uk has been designed so that a user can set-up a new account as quickly as possible…..
I hope my experiences over the past year will open your eyes a little, and let you see in which direction you want to head…. In my opinion you should find something and just stick with it… that’s the main reason for going into the Job Market as I want to make this a long term venture…
If you want to have a chat with me feel free to add me on msn or just email me: arrannorth@ukdesigners.com
P.S to all you experienced entrepreneurs I would appreciate it if you could give me feedback on my idea of offering diverse subscription costs for different size businesses?
I wish you all the luck in the future and I hope we can have a chat one day….
Best Wishes,
Arran 8)
