After 20+ years in finance and IT I was made redundant earlier this year from both my jobs (yes, I had two... long story). No cash lump sums this time around.

I thought: why not give self-employment a go? After all, I've only got a wife, a mortgage and four kids to support. The goldfish can look after themselves and at least I'll save money on the commute.

A less-than logical step was made from a career as an accountant, trainer, consultant and business manager (plus assorted other titles collected over time) to freelance writer and a wannabe photographer. I once earned some pennies writing cartoon comic scripts and fancied making a living from words.

I've survived 6 months. I've written lots of CV's (for other people, not me) and filled pages of the web with text. I've even been paid for some of this. The wife and kids are still being fed, and the building society hasn't sent the bailiffs round yet. No comment from the goldfish.

So that's me introduced. Nice to meet you.

Andrew

Hi to all,

After spending 10 years + with Large multinational organisations i decided that i was fed up with earning a hell of a lot of money for other people and not getting the right rewards for this. After a re-shuffle in our office i decided to take VR and decided 4 months ago to go it along.

I have always had a positive outlook, coupled with the fact that i knew i could do my job well, i was very confident about the future.

I know i am only 4 months into it, but things are working out and exceeding expectations.

There is nothing like being your own boss!!

Over to you

Cheers
