Hello,
Would be grateful for some advice and help. What is the best way to get in contact with companies like, mothercare, adams, tesco, boots - do we send sales letter and follow up with telephone call - how do we find out the key person to contact? How about local companies cinema, local attractions etc..?
Thank you,
jen

The free way is to get a list of companies from yell.com, call them to find out the managers name, send a letter and then follow it up with a phone call.
The reasonably priced way is to get a business list from your local library (they now offer business services at low prices) and again send letters and call.
The expensive way is to buy a directory from the internet and get a telesales company to make your calls for you

The best results we find are:
Call the company and ask who's respinsible for ABC.
Ask to be put through to XXX.
If the reply is "I'm sorry could you put something in writing to XXX", then ask the person for their name (YYY).
Send a tailored letter to XXX, saying that YYY suggested contacting them.
A week later call the company and speak to YYY, saying that, as they suggested, you wrote a letter to XXX and can he/she check they've received it okay.
When YYY says, "yes he/she has received it", ask to be put though. We find that this approach has an 80% success rate of reaching the decision maker.
