Hi all,
Im already in business and have worked real hard over the last 2 years to get to a stage I am at now - very busy, earing well and established in my feild.
I now have some extra finance and time to put towards another business venture but im unsure of what to do. I know its an age old thing where people say 'i want to start my own business, what shall I do???' but that really is the case.
Was just wondering if there is a specialised forum that people log on to purely to brain storm ideas???

Really like the website. I've not seen a specialised forum but why not try posting some ideas on here? I'm sure you'll get loads of feedback. Just as a point of interest, what would you say was the one thing that helped you to get where you are today with the business?

Hi Matt,
Loved your site too especially this:
Roofing
We happily carry out all range of work to flat roofs, tile & salte roofs including rebuild or maintenance.
Salt gritted roofs? That's your new venture in a nutshell!!
No more gutters straining under the weight of snow and ice; no more slipping when repairing your roof; safe for Santa on the eve of the 25th.
Sorry Matt. There's a smart 'A' everywhere, isn't there?
cheers, Nigel

Your post wasn't clear about the amount your looking to invest in a new venture, but this is what my company does, and I've yet to find a better return on investment:
Spend, say, £500k on buying a business. Acquire a company which is not being run terribly well, so it has scope to be improved. Also, Ideally buy a company which has some property on its balance sheet. Typically, £500k could buy you a company making about £100k profit (5 X EBITDA). Spend five years improving the company and pocketing the profit, remove the property from the business, then sell both the property and the (improved) company. The mathematics are quite remarkable:
Invest £500k
Achieve:
Year 1: £100k profit
Year 2: £125k profit
Year 3: £150k profit
Year 4: £175k profit
Year 5: £200k profit
Sell Property for, say, £100k
Sell company for 5 X £200k
Total: £1.85m
And the cherry on the cake is that when you come to sell the company, because you've owned the shares for more than two years you will get 75% tax relief on the capital gain, so you only pay 10% tax (£50k)on the disposal.
You couldn't get that sort of a return at Barclays Bank! And in the meantime, you have fun improving the company.
Needless-to-say, I selected £500k (above) as an example. However, whatever figure is applied, the same percentages apply.
