Well, I was looking for a business forum and it looks like I've found one!
My brother and I launched a website last week and run it through our newly registered company - Webdreamers Ltd. Basically we're trying to complete a large mosaic by inviting 0.1% of the worlds population to upload an image of themselves (along with a message).
Have a look if you please:

The ultimate aim is to be able to generate any desired image from the resulting pictures submitted. A customer can then order a copy of the mosaic and have it reprsent any image they like. The fun bit is they will be looking at 0.1% of the worlds population hanging on their wall ;).

Hello and Welcome!
Is it free for people to add themselves?
It's an interesting spinoff from the million dollar homepage.

Hi!
It costs 99 pence to put yourself on. I'm going to have to gauge people's willingness to spend their time and pocket change to fill in the extra details.
...I've had such great feedback on the site, but the charge seems to turn people away. It may become free with the hope that advertising on a popular site will cover costs. I currently run goodle adsense on a few pages.
With regards to the similarities to the 'milliondollarhomepage', people familiar with it will instantly draw a likeness. However, the site is taking a completely different angle, offering a very different service, to a different market.

Hi Norseman! Fab site and something that could really take off! I don't know about the 99p fee, it did put me off to start with (and it could be a barrier to others - and let's face it we can all do with less barriers between us and our end users!) But I think if you could get a few "sneezers" on there who'll evangelise the site for you to their friends then you could charge for ad space no probs. It's a fun way to waste time looking at other folks on there. BTW I want Oli's life, how cool is THAT photo!! Good luck and welcome. Freya. :)

I like the idea a lot - so much better than the other milliondollarhomepage copy cats - you have actually developed the idea into something more interesting.

I can imagine how people might spend hours at your site once it is populated. This is a great idea - although you really must make it free.
Rather than simply post pictures in the shape of a rectangle, what about arranging them into a more interesting shape? It could be a map of the world or a phrase such as "We are the world!"
Even more fascinating, what about creating moving images whereby you move pictures around the board every few seconds rather than attach them to fixed locations? This would bring your mosaic to life. You could even spell out the names or recreate the logos of site advertisers. Now that would really attract visitors and pull in the advertising revenue.

Variations of these scripts sell for around $50 on the web (last time I checked)
Try Googling for things like 'Million Dollar Web Page Script'

I do have to say that the people who have sent in their pictures so far lead far more exciting lives and look far more attractive than I do, therefore I couldn't submit myself and let the world see that I dont' spend my time at glam parties or jumping out of airplanes.
or maybe, if I put my investigative SillyJokes hat on........those people aren't real submitters and you got them from a picture library just to get you started.
Incidentally I was thining the that 1% of the world would not actually be representative of the world because vast tracts of it have little or no internet access and the rest don't speak English.
I still like the idea though.

These are all great ideas, thanks for the input! Before making any changes I'm going to hang around a bit longer and hope for increasing traffic, I'm still waiting to see if I get mentioned in the local papers from a press release I sent out.
Alternatively I was thinking of developing it into a 'normal' networking service perhaps with a world forum as well, whereupon signing up is free, but having access to premium features carries a subscription charge... I would need to bring in some heavy guns to sort that out though....

Thanks Rob, I found a few some time ago, however I have changed my mind for the moment (amazing the beauty of hindsight).
I had to ask myself "why didn't any of us upload our pictures..."
