Hi
I've just purchased a new Laptop to upgrade my old laptop. Can you tell me the best way to transfer files from old to new? Is there a way of connect leads and creating a small network?
I reckon I might have to purchase a new MS frontpage - I've lost all the disc's and manuals - Anyone selling one?
Thanks
Lisa

One of the simplest non technical ways to transfer your data from one computer to another is by purchasing a piece of software called laplink. (It used to come with all the neccessary cables but has been many years since I last used it)

I used it last year and it worked well although transfer rate was pretty slow
Depends on the sort of data and what hardware you've got

The easiest wasy, assuming both laptops have USB, is to buy an external hard drive, copy your old machine entirely, and then you will always have those files that you didn't know you needed in 6 months time.
The extra harddrive can also be used for other storage/backup, and they are not too expensive nowadays - think they start at around £80.

Easy has a great point. I had problems with my harddrive and purchased an external one (80GB for approx £70). I then bought Norton Ghost.
I use the external harddrive as back up storage (the Ghost software runs automatically in the background).
When i bought a new laptop i used the software and external drive to copy the whole harddrive of the old machine then transferred to the new. Very quick and easy and perfect result.
The harddrive and software came to less then £100 and have peace of mind now as well well worth it

Hi Lisa,
I have a laplink cable here as well if you're interested. You can borrow it if you like. It has the software and stuff as well.
