The following searchs

"pensino release"
"pension release UK"

Am i right in saying that Google will treat these as seperate searchs for diffrent keyword strings,

And that Google will not treat the search for "pension release UK" as a search for "pensino release" in only the UK, so the two keyword terms would need to be optimised for seperatly.

Also am i right in saying to search only UK websites you need to click the radio button in google.co.uk to search only UK sites, not by putting UK in the search string?

More or less.

Google used to be quite good are matching searches to your location but that's all gone pear shaped now.

Essentially putting UK in the search box means G will look for pages that have UK somewhere on the page. If you only want results from the UK then yes you need to click the uk only option.

Mind you, I've just done the search and got the same results worldwide and uk only so I think it's pretty arbitary.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought that was how it worked. Just wanted to be 100% before going back to the client.
