My main web site (for web development) is half way done now, I have a meeting next week with my business advisor and I have just been sent a 1000 page Learn Direct course about marketing and finances.

However the cash flow for web development can be difficult so I was thinking of offering a WIFI installation service for homes and SMEs this might help subsidise my web development/CMS business.

My question is I am best to run brand them as completly different businesses? I am very keen not to portray a cowboy image with my web development business and I am worried a WIFI installation service may do that.

I am getting all the stuff together for my business plan and I need to know how the WIFI fits into web design if that makes sense  .

It ll depends how you willbe pitching yourself on the webdev front. If you look at my company site (www.keyone.co.uk) we seem to get away with offering a multitude of services, although primarily it is web development that we do/push.

I'd suggest the site just focuses on the development and you market wifi installs and whatever else through other channels (local papers, etc), especially if it's only going to be a short term thing to get some cash in.

Bear in mind that if you lay a single finger on a computer owned by a person (As opposed to a company) they will expect you to be their free techincal support number for life.

Ha maybe I better get an 0870 number then. I know exactly what you mean, I used know somebody who kept wanting me to fix his PC, he paid me £10 plus travel but it just wasn't worth it, some of the stuff I had to like remove stuff which looking back may have actually been ilegal.

It is mainly a short term thing but as longs as there is a demand I will continue to offer the service. I have a lot of experience of marketing to houses as well.
