Hi all,

I've just put together a very basic website for a client who is a wholesaler of halogen lamps. His quality and price are great although the range is limited and perhaps makes the website itself look unprofessional. His clearing house is PayPal (they allow payment by credit card without having a PayPal account as long as your computer hasn't logged into PayPal before).

If anyone is bored during their lunch break, could they have a peek and give me some feedback?

http://www.brookwade.com

Thanks!

Paul

I'm looking for a supplier of colour specific (4700K - 5000K) tungsten lamps Solux or similar for a gallery.

Hi Paul

Yes, I like it (and will be using it!).

I like the logo and the over all feel but would say it has some usablity problems.

To avoid repeating myself ad nauseum I would like to comment this time on the fact that there should be far more in the way of product description.

Even though you think the customers know what it is they are buying there is not enough information for someone like me who might like bulbs but needs to know which bulb goes with which fitting and for what purpose.

This extra text will also be useful for you in terms of search engine results.

Content is king and I feel it is a little thin on the ground on this site.

For a proper ecommerce assessment please contact me. I charge £650 a day plus expenses.

And I'm only half joking. ;)

Thank you all for your feedback. It's funny, when I started, I thought I would definately be putting in more explanation about each product. But by the time I'd finished, it didn't really work out that way! I've thought about having extended explanations as popup windows but wasn't sure if that would annoy people!

I'm no expert but I like the look of the site and the navigation is nice and easy.

explanations not in pop up as would not help search engines and would annoy people.

Incidentally I did not do your poll as the questions were not mutually exclusive.

It's like asking ,"Do you walk to work or take a packed lunch?"

Well, which do you do?

;-)

Seriously - thanks for that advice. I'll do some work on it.

What I find most alarming is that someone has paid you to design the site but you are asking us for advice on whether it works.

It's usually people who are doing it themselves who would ask for a site review.

Can you design sites or not? ;) Or perhaps you, yourself are Mr Halogen.

You'll have to forgive the suspicion but many people who are first time posters seem to think we have all fallen down in the last rain drop.

Very interesting! I can see you've some experience in the field! I run a creative company (see profile) but am not myself a creative. Web tech stuff is normally done with partners of ours. I have however been dabbling in web stuff myself and friend-of-a-friend asked me to put this together on the cheap. So it's a mini-project of mine.
So the answer to your question is an irrefutable 'kinda'.

Ha, you've been rumbled.

Not to worry. It doesn't look bad, the site.

I like the front page which tells me exactly what the site does and gives the value propotion straight off.

Now I'm not actually a techie myself but there may be some accessibility/usability problems surrounding your menu but I'll let someone else explain exactly what they are.

I must say I was rather impressed yesterday when a Google (.com) search for UK shop returned you on the second page!

Is that quite high? I spent quite a bit of time on my keywords!
