To me the people on the show are plainly using the fact that they are making a channel four show to get access to buyers in supermarkets which they would never get access to in a million years.

Having said that I do enjoy it.

Most annoying person? That woman entrepenuer who uses those creepy training techniques and patronises so painfully. I can't bear those stupid excersises designed to show how stupid you are compared to the clever trainer who knows the trick. They are, at best, humiliating.

Most stupid - possibly the bloke with the shampoo girls who didn't realise that only one of the pair of women he was taking on was motivated and capable.

But then, it wouldn't make good TV if they took on people who were any good and I think this shows in this particular program.

I love it! Haven't seen all programmes and wonder if there's any reason at all to feel sorry for the irish girl who's now gone home and seems to have missed out on a fortune (baby shampoo)? The programme I saw (think it was last week), showed her joining the other two four months after the start of the project and she didn't seem to have done anything in those four months.

I love it! Im quite addicted now - I think the baby shampoo will do the best (although it could be tricky now they are having an affair!)

A affair! I thought that was the bed people.

I said to top hat that those two would be getting it on when I saw the first episode. What a mess, and him with a brand new baby. I bet the mentor woman just wants to bang their silly heads together. Instead she finds herself having to comfort and cajole the two people in order to get them back into some sort of functioning business team.

Yes, my money is on the shampoo too.

The fitness people - I have no idea exactly what it is they are doing and how it will make money.

I doubt that Ivan Massow is having an affair with the woman as he has been very gay for many years! (I remember him from the days of being the finance advisor on the Big Breakfast when he gave advice on the bed with Paula Yates)

It's abit unfair now that Masscow has now taken an active role in the partnership as he has the experience to drive the product home (and open doors at Tescos)

The bed thing - give it up and get a room.
The health Site - Can't see it happening

Never mind - Dragons Den starts this week.

I caught the last 20 minutes last week - cringeworthy (tears, babies, relationship breakdowns, confrontations, etc..) A soap opera masquerading as a documentary.

That aside, the whole concept is fundamentally flawed. If you've got a product you're trying to sell and you say to Tescos "will you stock my product?" - they probably won't. However, if you say to Tescos "will you stock my product? And by the way, I'll be bringing along a 20 strong film crew so Tescos will be on prime time TV, showing sympathy to a budding entrepreneur, so you'll get lots of free PR." - you might not be shown the door so quickly.

Steve, you are so right.

There is a considerable amount of gloss over how they came up with the shampoo idea, how the product was developed and tested, how they got it packaged and how they got an interview with Tesco.

I'm sure it is still a lot of work but I think it was a product the mentor already had in his stable ready to go and all they are doing is marketing it.

My Mrs has been watching this and has also seen interviews on Richard & Judy with most of the contestants and THEY ALL MADE 1 MILLION in their 1st year... The Irish girl that was sacked even got a share of the profit.

I hope that hasn't spoiled it for anyone...

The idea was from one of Ivans mates, they showed that in the first program, the two girls didn't have a idea of their own when they were chosen!

The design team are a group that do a lot of the braning for the Massow group (thats the impression that I got)

Though how they formulated and tested the product etc. was never covered

oooops, sorry I mixed them up, it is the bed people having the affair not the shampoo peeps (it was very late when I posted that!)

I find it quite amazing that these were the 3 couple picked by the mentors, if they were the best it really doesn't look that good for the future of entrepreneurs in the UK........

Couple 1: 2 mums, one single with no business idea at all, they get an idea from one of their mentors mates. Friends and business don't often mix

Couple 2: 2 gay guys living together, they have an idea but can't explain to anyone what it is.
Relationships and business don't often mix

Couple 3: Guy who has newborn baby and his long term female friend (recipe for disaster) They have her fathers idea.

Wow... really!? According to last night's program the bed people hadn't actually sold a bed and the diet website hadn't even launched. And they all made a million?!

I'm off to phone Channel 4 to see if they want some more entrepreneurs!!

You know that this is pre-recorded don't you....

Did you find it interesting that the mentor's are all putting an increasing amount of money in to each business obviously for an increasing share...

They should re-name this program "I've made me another million" (with the help of a PA selected by channel 4) te he

They should call it, "I made a million and to help me I employed a couple of members of the public,"

Still, it has to be watched.

A show that is full of good business advice is that property development show with Sarah Beany. At least it concentrates on costs and other relevant business advice and not on the soap opera aspects.

Yes I did, but I thought the year was almost up? They showed them being interviewed by Stelios etc. at the end of last night's show.

How did the diet people make a million from that?!?

That Emma Harrison is a smug b*tch isn't she? She took so much delight in having the bed people split up.

Is it just me or do the contestents seem very uninterested in their own businesses?

The guys on the Apprentice had far more get up and go and they werent risking their houses on their projects.

I don think there is anyone on the Make Me A Millionaire I would employ, however I dont think there was anyone on the Apprentice I wouldnt employ (especially from the American series)

It was the baby shampoo people for those that missed it!

So, it was the one where the idea came (pretty much ready developed) from the mentor, where the mentor did the greatest percentage of the work and where the start up business was able to get a meeting with buyers from the largest retailer in the UK?

Hmmmm

Actually I think the more pertinent quote is 'It's not what you know but who you know'

I have known many succesful businesses start because they knew someone who had 'contacts' and could open the door.

So moving swiftly on from Granny Alan... :)

It was obvious the shampoo girl was going to win, after all she managed (via some help) to get their product stocked in the country's largest retailer!

And from an earlier post it seems the diet people didn't actually make a million, they had their company valued at a million. Not bad but not so sure I'd invest though.

Can you believe their website cost £130k?!

EDS
23rd November 2005, 17:20
Somebody got done there!!! £130k I think perhaps the website company should have been on looks as if they are well on the way to a million at those prices;-)

great programme and I just knew that the shampoo girl would do it. Her mentor was by far the best IMO.

Shame its finished - back to watching property ladder now...
