Well, after a recent thread I started where people warned me of hosting from home and risking possible disconnection, I took the plunge. I went with Pipex, paying over the odds, but with a company I like and up until now respected.
I put our site on the new shared server on Friday of last week. On Tuesday at 11.15am the server died. Its 10:40 on Thursday morning and the server is still down!
We are half an hour short at the moment of having been off the internet for 48HOURS!
'Pipex Webfusion - Premier Web Hosting solution' - Certainly not the case for me!
'Your site is precious. Choose your host wisely.' - I wish I had. I haven't though!
'99.9% Connectivity - We make sure that your site is available day and night.' - If I wasn't so bl**dy angry I'd laugh.
So a hearty not recommended from me!

They should offer a money back guarantee in the first 30 days or so - I'd take them up on it.
I just lost a reseller enquiry to Pipex as the potential client opted for the 'bigger' name. I was gutted - now I bet they are too.

that is a terrible amount of downtime, we had 2 drives fail in a server last week and replaced the hardware, restored the server with 48 hour old backups and had it back up and running in just under 4 hours.
This type of thing can and does happen to just about every host out there, and I think clients can understand that. How the issue is dealt with and keeping clients informed throughout the process are the most important things......

I had a server die yesterday for 4 hours and it was a nightmare! Luckily no data was lost but it can be a very stresssfull time for a host! - Well for those of us who actually care it is...
That's one of the piftalls of a big company - okay they have massive resources but they also have a massive client base to satisfy.

It sounds like you have picked a really bad host there! Very unfortunate I suggest you attempt to get your money back, and move to a new host ASAP.
My business is entirely Web based, and as such I cannot really consider self-hosting - We are relying on our hosting provider to keep their side of the bargain, and keep our service available 24/7. That’s not to say we have never felt the sting of downtime, but I have never had a server off for more than ~2 hours - let alone 2 days!
My recommendations for hosting would be either Textdrive or SiteHQ. Kyotee is currently hosted on SiteHQ, and their service has been very reliable over the past 18 months.
I am soon to be launching a new venture, and am assessing Textdrive's reliability at the moment. I prefer to have different sites on completely different servers, as if one server ended up hosting more than one of my sites, any downtime would cause me more problems.
I hope you manage to get this sorted soon!
