View Full Version : Apologies for silly questions - a/c's software again!

Hi All,

1st - thanks to all - I've been doing some research (on previous threads), as I've decided to change accounts package, and they've really helped! Having now learned to check on here before parting with dosh (BT!), I was hoping someone could please help with a couple of questions...

Background:
I've tried using QB, but can't get on with it, so am thinking of switching to Sage 50 A/c Plus - primarily because it allows for different pricing structures - my major client uses Sage line 500, so I'm (hoping) the learning curve will be less steep! And I took on board Jenni's post on a previous thread about picking something you're happy with. (Really hope it works out like that!)
I've spoken to my accountant - as advised before - and they agreed the Sage option, because of the customer-specific pricing...and tried a "test drive", looks OK...

Silly question 1st - Is it possible to add text to an invoice in Sage? (wasted 3 hours trying to do so in QB before I gave up!)

Serious questions:
1 - Does anyone see a flaw in the plan?
2 - I've inv'd some customers from QB without VAT, now have a back-dated VAT reg, so need to credit + re-inv - does anyone think it wrong that I credit from QB, then invoice with VAT (as if new) from Sage?
3 - Cost...I've scooted t' web, and got a price of just over £600 (inc VAT) from SJ Software (cheaper than my a/ctant quoted). Does anyone know the firm, are they OK + does the price sound about right?

Many thanks in advance folks - your help's much appreciated!

regards
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

You might want to contact Alison Mead of Silicon Bullet (http://www.siliconbullet.com/) for a price, Alison is a member on here (weebly_one) and is a Sage reseller.

Happy to quote - and match any price you have seen (might even undercut it if you are lucky!!)

Just a word of warning - Sage 50 is a product developed by Sage in house over the last 12 ish years - Line 500 is a product they have bought and re branded (I have never seen Line 500 as I just work with Sage 50 and Instant products) - there is unlikely to be any similarity between the two.

And yes - Sage invoices are very flexible -with stock invoices and extra message lines or service invoices - and you can add any text to the invoice design too - I am happy to help you with this to get you started as the report designer can take a little getting used to.

Hi
I have spent much of today speaking to Sage direct about a serious problem we have. 'data corruption'. Anyway after going through all possibilities, checks etc our data has been transferred over the net and is being sorted over night! (at additional cost)
I cannot express how helpful and patient Sage have been and would recommend them without hesitation.
Good points - Great back up, well known package easy to use, experienced operators not required.
Bad points - expensive back up costs compared to other packages
Summary - I think there worth it!

Hi I have recently purchased Sage 50 via Sage - I was directed to the Book-keepers Club who have been very helpful in sorting out the package to suit my business. It may be worth you calling Sage direct and ask their advice. Explain what you want to do with the software and they will advise you accordingly. Hope this helps a littlle:)

The company I worked for until April was the subject of the largest Sage Line 500 implementation in the UK up to that point 4 years ago. It was a total nightmare, despite not being in the implementation team I rapidly became involved in making it work.

It is basically a bolt-on to Tetra software. It looks nothing like the other Sage packages I have seen and used, and processes transactions completely differently.

For example, sometimes you need to press "Confirm" to process a transaction like input a requisition. So far so easy. But other times you need to press "Exit" to process transactions - try getting the average small business user to cope with that without training!
