Hi All

I'm looking at getting a couple of new laptops. Up till now, I've managed to get XP licences, but I think they are pretty much impossible to get from mainstream suppliers

Which version of Vista should I get for general business use? They will be connected to an older SBS server, and will also be used roaming with 3G connections.

Thanks

Hi Jonathan,

How soon are you looking to get the laptops? I ask because Windows 7 is due out in late October, and offers a more stable work experience than Vista. Some laptop vendors are now offering free upgrades to Win7 after launch, so it's worth thinking about holding off for the next 6 weeks.

Best,

Jon

If it's urgent to get the laptops now, at least make sure you get the free Windows 7 upgrade on offer.

I've recently ordered a new Dell laptop, purely because my (three-year-old) current one is dying at speed. That's got Home Premium on it, and will update to Win 7 as soon as poss. I'd suggest Home Premium as a minimum, but most likely Business.

Unfortunately even Microsoft's version comparison is pretty unhelpful on this.

if you need then now, i agree get a free windows 7 upgrade then when they arrive install thewindows 7 RC2 which is free, then upgrade and entery the serial key and your done. I do use Vista but not really out of choice and i will be moving ASAP when my windows 7 keys come in.

I agree with every post , wait for windows 7 , do not get a laptop with vista, vista is horrible unless your in a hurry.

and the Vista version's really depend on what specs you have, I mean Vista ultimate requires like 4gig ram minimum to function normal for a tiny bit?

Or get a Mac with snow leopard :P ( The best )

Agree about waiting for 7 but don't get a Home version if you want to connect to SBS

If you are in a hurry, Windows Vista Business is the right choice for connecting to SBS servers etc. The reality is though Windows 7 is being released in October, I would advise waiting a bit until they have fixed most of the bugs. New operating systems can sometimes be a headache until bugs are discovered and fixed.
