Hi Guys

Any one any recommendations for software for our phone system.

What we are trying to do is set up a small call answering service for some clients and we would love to get some software that when someone rings company A on our pc a pop up will appear on the computer saying that its a call for company A and our girls can answer it as good morning you are through to company A. I know it can be done with voip but were looking to get something down using ISDN, we have a nortel pbx and three headsets but if we can get it sorted we will get more headsets.

Thanks for any help

Regards
John

If it can be done it will be by using a function in the Nortel PBX. Look under CLI presentation in the manual - we offer it as a free feature called Line Presentation.

I developed the software systems that we use our telephone answering company (http://www.eph.co.uk/technology.html).

If you are interested I can implement a custom solution for your company; it will display the name of the company in a box in the corner of the operator's screen - it's easy to read and in our case actually appears 1.5 seconds before the phone rings!

There are different Nortel packages that will do this. They use the Nortel LAN CTE interface as the software bridge to be able to 'talk' to the PBX.

One common one is Dial by Name 2.0, which identifies incoming callers (if they are in your database of contacts) or shows the number if they're not.

It also allows you to dial fromt he database, to highlight text on-screen in other apps and on websites and have the PBX dial that number, and you get a colour-coded presence display of the people in your business, with respect to them being on an incoming call, outgoing call, out to lunch etc.

(We use this at work.)

If you Google BCM Dial by Name you'll find it.
