How do computers get infected with tracking cookies - and is there away to stop them infecting my computer.
I have norton, a firewall, and run spyware - but there are always countless of them to delete.
I try to be very careful and not open anything iffy - but how do they keep appearing.
Thanks

They appear because so many sites use independant companies like DoubleClick etc to track their traffic and ensure that their affiliates are paid correctly for introduced sales/ from advert banners etc.
As they are cookies they are no "infecting" your PC but simply sitting on it, they are only tiny text files.

if you go under tools , internet options, and look on the privaacy tab here you may be able to adjust what level of privacy you want....this will limit of cookies you get...cookies in most cases are ok i think u should use spybot search and destroy tio get rid of all spyware stuff this is the nasty stuff

If you want to control this have a look at Adaware. http://www.lavasoft.com
They have a limited function free edition.

Just use Firefox and change the privacy settings. I block everything except those cookies needed to manage my accounts (sites with logins usually). Keep the PC sweet and clean.
It also means you can visit your own website without showing up in the stats.
