We have recieved the letter, that we got LATE FILLING PENALTY and we have to pay 150 GBP to Lewis Dept Company. We have checked internet but we havent found any information about this company. Does it really exist?

I wasn't aware of HMRC or Co House selling the debt off to any one.

Companies House don't necessarily sell the debt, but they certainly use Lewis Debt Collection if you don't pay up.

Companies House do charge late filing penalties and do use companies to collect the charges. I havent actually heard of this particular company so I would check with Companies House before doing anything further. Were your accounts filed late?

We've seen a few demands referred to Lewis Debt. You can phone Companies House, but it won't reduce the payment! And once it's in the hands of an agency, you can bet that process will be followed if you don't pay up.

The letter is from address: Lewis Debt Services, The Lewis Group Ltd, Lawrence House, Riverside Drive, Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.

I've checked the Companies House website, but there is not anything about the company "Lewis Debt Services Ltd". I don't know if it's fake.

I called to Companies House, they confirm, that this company exists and is in charge of their penalties. Thank you all for help!

Maybe it is for Annual Return late filing (9months late) or for late Accounts filing (also 9months)

I called to the Companies House, but they told me to ask Lewis Company and there they told me to ask Companies house again.

I paid the penalty, but i'm not sure if we are not going to be fined again. And I don't know for what is that 150 GBP penalty...?

If you send accounts in late to Companies House you incur a fine. Have a read here if you arent sure of the deadlines etc -

It why us accountants chase up clients to stop them incurring such penalties.
