Hi,

I don't think the google page rank thing is working right. I was using it to find high ranking sites to try and link to.

For fun I put Ebay in and it says it's only a 7 and Dalton weekly was only a 5. Is 7 high? What is the highest rank of all? Some of the other sites that I searched for came up on the first page of my google search and they had no ranking at all.

It really doesn't make sence at all... need explinations please, I thought I understood it until today.

Thanks

Jayne :D

Ranks are between 0 and 10.

A page rank isn't indicative of your ranking in search results for any specifc term. Two totally different things.

ebay.com is a 9. ebay.co.uk is a 7

Hi,

Well if that google rank tool, isn't no use, how do I find out which sites to links to?

Google PageRank is an indication of how important Google thinks a website is, judged on how many relevant sites are linking to it. It's good practice to try to establish link exchanges with sites that have the same - or higher - PageRank as yours.

Case in point - the Macromedia Flash download page has a high PageRank because everybody links to that page using the same phrase: "click here". If you search for the phrase "download flash player" you don't get the same page as if you search for "click here". This shows that - as Duane rightly said - your PageRank is based on how many people link to you (and what text they use) and is not to do with the keywords on your page.

Thanks Mark,

I've save that to favourites, so I can read it over and over...it'll take me about 20 reads to get it all in
