..with the lastest news in your particualar industry.
How do you do this?
Do you subscribe to specific sites and magazines etc
Do you do a google and just see what news reports come up?
Anyone know of a particular site that specialises in this and covers a broad spectrum?
Much Appreciated

All of the above plus keeping a close eye on all the government sites that cover the relevant areas of business - applies to me especially as I do legal stuff, but not a bad idea for anyone.
Being a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, business link, etc also helps but it's not enough by itself. Trade association websites in your area of trade are good sources of info, often useful even if you're not a member (yet).
Oh and talking to people helps :) If you can get away from the 'puter that is

One method we use is RSS feeds, the most interesting of which we have incorporated into our website.
There are thousands of feeds available, many of which will be directly relevant to you own business environment.
Building these into your website gives you frequently changing, on topic relevant content which search engines love.
Have a look at a RSS directories such as:
http://www.2rss.com/
You can see our current RSS feeds incorporated (transparently) into our website at

If you'd like something similar on your own sites, PM me to discuss further.

Being totally biased we have to say that keeping up to date with all the latest going-ons has to be RSS.
Google, Yahoo AOL, etc all have free RSS readers for all and are easy to use without any downloads.
RSS Feeds are the future for direct marketing. As your feed grows subscribers this allows you to market directly to them as often as you think is relevant. It overcomes the problems of e-mail marketing, spam filters, virus fear and maintaining an e-mail subscription list.
With e-mail charges for delivery looming on the horizon e-newsletters etc may be on their way out.

I would suggest you search the news groups on the web under your specialist areas, you can them subscribe.

We subscribe to trade journals, companies that collect data on our particular sector, websites, RSS feeds, are active members of sector and associated bodies. Arguably people have been recruited with a benefit seen that they have worked in an important part of one of our competitors (though clearly with this if they are willing to breach their NDA to us then need to consider the risk of them doing the same if they move on again to another competitor)
We use http://www.datamonitor.co.uk and http://www.factiva.co.uk/ a fair amount as well as many other resources more specific to our sector.
