Hi

I have just launched my site (3 weeks ago) - how / when will it start getting a ranking. I have a few links set up for it (am trying to get more - help please?). Should I go for just relevant links or just get links every where? I was working on the assumption of not getting loads of links as it just would be wasting my time.

Also, my view at the moment for the main site (www.letssalvageit.com) is that, as it is a 'new' concept, going for SEO would seem pointless as how would someone know to look for it if they don't know such a thing exists? DEBATE?!

I have a very limited / non existent budget so they would be no point trying to sell me something - sorry!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Elaine,

You just missed the October pagerank update, so you'll probably have to wait a couple of months to see any changes.

Go for relevant links rather than anything and everything and concentrate on building good content.

Thanks Amber - it is good to know that as some people will only link to sites with good page ranking. At least now I can say why my sites haven't.

Also the good content is where I am at. I think I would prefer to have few hits from people who then joined and put something on the site(s) rather than loads of hits and nothing.

Another problem you are going to have is that because your site is new then it will automatically get "sandboxed" by Google, this will keep your ranking down for a few months anyway... The amount of time you will remain sandboxed is a mystery - but keep plugging away with getting inbound links so when you leave the sandbox you are in a good shape SEO wise.

OK - next dump question. What does sand boxed mean. I have used sand box before in testing terms as a place where people can play around on a new system to familiarise themselves with it with out the fear of a mistake messing up the whole system (kind of a bit between formal training and full use of the site).

It's pretty much the same thing. Basically because of lots of seo spamming sites google will downgrade a site until it's been up for about 6 months.

It's a pain for new businesses, but I can see were they are coming from.

Hey - thanks for that. A pain but good to know.
