Prominence and exposure for any SME starting out is of course essential whether offline or online. Outside SEO and PPC where you are nothing more than a text link essentially competing for premium positions - yes we understand the more niche the search term the better the ROI and so on but what about real exposure - getting your brand name out really out in the market place.

Would SME's be interesting in a low cost advertsing solution that saw them gain exposure through various ad formats on UK portals and online national newspapers at an affordable price?

Any thoughts or experience on this would be great.

Hi Jayne,

I'm sure somebody will elaborate on these terms, but simply put, their meanings are as follows:-

SME = Small/Medium Enterprise (as the majority of businesses on this forum are)

PPC = Pay Per Click (sponsored link advertising on for instance, Google AdWords)

SEO = Search Engine Optimisation ( to obtain the best search engine positioning for your website)

ROI = Return on Investment (best return for your money)

Lol..Thanks, I thought they were more techy terms! I understand it now!

Wonder how many others wanted to know this too and dare not ask?

Thanks again

Lee

On-line marketing represents about 50% of our overall marketing. Local press, radio and various forms of networking and attending exhibitions etc form a large part of the other 50%

We have found good exposure from entry to local awards but sadly have not yet got past finalist stages.

I am very open to new ways in which I can gain extra exposure to my companies but would be reluctant to spend any more on PPC campaigns.

Do you have a strategy in mind or are you looking for your own ideas?

thats simply not possible unless you a) think of something very special (chances low) or b) get lucky somehow. just being honest

what you should be looking for are ideas / concepts that have a high impact/cost ratio and comparing different marketing techniques using this single number - impact for a site can be impression (which you can then translate into revenue) - hence work out an ROI.

I tend to disagree, some methods can increase business that may cost you anything except your TIME (which can be more valuable than any money!)
