My anti virus has found this three times now over the last three days.

Adware Gereric.GTC

We delete it and run a second check, the system is declared clean, then the next morning it is there again.

Anyone know what it is?

We run AVG 7.1 Pro.

It runs updates on itself every day.

Maybe as you have the Pro version you can get the telephone support?

AVG UK

Hope this helps,

I've had the same problem for about around a week now with the "Adware Generic DZH" virus, File name "Isp.dll" located in "C:\Windows\system32\isp.dll".

AVG pro 7.1 Pro apparently heals the file following a system reboot, but each day when AVG checks my system it's back again.

I sent the file to the dustbin, but couldn't log on to the internet until it was restored.

If you find a solution please let us know.

I don't think that it is a "virus" as such, but rather just spyware...

Try this:

Google for "adaware" download it and install it - you may need to update if off the net and then run a scan. This should find the majority of spyware on your PC and delete it...

The other option is to clear all your temp internet folders and cookies (from the tools option in the IE toolbar) and then reboot your pc into safe mode (PRESS F8 during bootup) run the AV scan from safe mode and this will detect and delete files that couldn't be removed because they were being used by something - Safe mode disables ALL non-priority apps on your system.

If you need any more help then email me at sales@twdhosting.co.uk or PM me

Alan,

Sounds exactly the same and attaching to the same programme too.

We contacted AVG and they said that an adware/spyware bug like this one is not technically a virus and so AVG couldn't deal with it properly.

We downloaded a spyware programme from;

http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/

,and it found loads more of them on the system.

They have all been cleaned out now so it's a case of waiting and seeing now.

AVG is not a very good antivirus it lets all spyware and antivirus in Only after a scan will it ask what to do with the found virus and its rare it will say it can heal the file. Try Zonealarm but it can be over protective for some.

I come across this problem all of the time. Here are a couple of things we do to clean customers computers.

1) download Spybot Search & Destory
http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10401314.html

2) download Adware SE
http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10399602.html

3) download Spyware Blaster
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

4) Go the Trendmicro website & use their online antivirus scanner.
http://housecal.trendmicro.com

If all that doesn't work try downloading Microsoft Antispyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

I hope this helps?

It should perhaps be noted that it is not the job of anti spyware, adaware programs to remove viruses. As the name suggests they remove adaware and spyware. :)

Unless you pay for the adaware program it will only scan when u tell it to.

The microsoft beta version, currently free, does both, removes on its regular sweeps, and keeps monitoring in the background.
heaven knows when microsoft will start to charge for this program. I hope it is not expensive as i would like to buy a copy myself :-)

As for anti virus programs, i am a firm believer in nortons. It is an industrial standard.
Sophos is another that many industries seem to use.

hope this helps

Personally, I recommend ZoneAlarm which is now owned by CheckPoint. I have licensed ZoneAlarm for all of my home and SOHO computers and my employer, IBM, uses the Checkpoint Integrity Suite version for at least all of the laptops used by consultants in the UK (thousands and thousands).

The latest ZoneAlarm suite includes anti-spywear measures.

I have the full Zonealarm security suite (incl Adware and spyware detection) installed on all our machines.
