i Would not recommend to buy from them if you want to sell electricals then i would recommend you buy straight from the makers of the products please let me know how you get on

some of the prices seem about right - its more a matter of finding the right supplier on there for the first deal then dealing direct - that way they save the fees and you can get slightly better pricing.

What Items is it you are looking at?

Thanks for your replies Friends.

@B4ST: Where can i find makers?? I mean how do i know that person claiming to have a big manufacturing site is really a authorized maker of that brand??
@Smrt Choice IT: I'm interested in Branded Electronics, Like mobiles and Laptops but there are very few Laptops available.

Hi,

As lIghting Giant have mentioned, be wary of sellers offering genuine items from china, most are fakes - as for branded items then you will be better dealing with the Distributors here and saving the hassle of import taxes etc the financial saving will not be worth the time.

I dont sell the branded goods, I get the Dual Sim phones from china, I get them drop shipped direct to customers so i dont see them - but the first couple of orders I got them shipped to me to confirm the quality etc.

If you want to see what I mean by the product I am selling please google my username (all one word) and the ebay listing should appear (newish account I am in the process of building up)

you might have a problem with quality issues.

Do a lot of research and pick the products that will bring you less hassle. Some of those products are copies.

Phones and laptops will more than likely be copies - some are ok some arnt, avoid the cheapest ones, the quality will be crap, or you wont get anything except robbed out your hard earnd money

The qualty some of the phones seems actually good, better then the first ones I bought, but then again the first lot was a lot cheaper (half the features didnt work properly etc)

staying clear of the iphone copies tho, customs loves them

Dhgate is not very famous in China. However, same as other B2B/B2C websites, DHgate is only a plateform, you need to choose the products very carefully.

Buy electronics such as mobiles and laptops from China is not a good idea, frankly-though I am a Chinese.

I've bought a few things from there including a couple of "branded" watches. quality is very hit and miss. I would suggest buying a few samples first at the least, then maybe pay them a visit.

I cannot stress enough this fact... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BUY ANY BRANDED GOODS FROM CHINA!!!!!!

That goes for electrical's, clothing, ANYTHING!
Just because you think they *look* authentic, they are not. China especially are masters at fakes and with a good quality fake, it can be difficult to spot. However, you will be the one prosecuted if found out! even if ordering for yourself - its illegal (but tempting! lol)

The best thing to do if you are looking for "cheap & cheerful" alternatives, is look for "clones". That is, they are made to look as much as legally possible to the original without breaching intellectual property rights.
(hence the difference between advertising as an Apple iPod and an iPod "style" MP3 Player).

Others who import these will know that Apple are fighting back recently and Customs are seizing these during clearance.
This also includes the silicon cases, where they have cut a shape out around the logo so the original logo on the iPod can show through the case. While the idea was so they didn't illegally print the logo on the case, it has obviously been decided by higher powers that the shape cut out is too similar to the logo itself, therefore constitutes infringement.
While I doubt it was tested in court, you can see why there is a good basis for their complaint. Nonetheless, HMRC now don't allow these through (but obviously a square/circle/etc cut-out would be fine).

The main thing you have to remember is, it is not the seller who will get in trouble, it is YOU!
HMRC hold you responsible for what you are importing and have the power to destroy your goods with no refund and prosecute you for it (whether they will is another matter).

To your original question about DHGate, its as legit as they come. They are a trading platform like Alibaba, but with more of an eBay feel to it (and less scammers than Alibaba).
Be careful, there are scammers. So like eBay use their feedback rating & comments as a guide. Trustpass and Gold status is better, but still doesn't mean they are 100% legit. Gold supplier on Alibaba means nothing at all, you simply pay a fee for the title.

Off the top of my head here are some of the better/more secure platforms you can use. They will only give you a fraction that Alibaba/DHGate does, but 90% of those are scams anyway:

HKTDC - The Hong Kong Trade Development Council
Official Government Initiative for registered Manufacturers in Hong Kong and China. Obviously strict verification procedures for members.

GlobalSources
A trading platform with very strict verification procedures, including offical company documents, company registration checks, and a minimum of 2/3 on-site visits to the manufacturing factory before being listed.

eSources
A UK focussed trading platform, while free/unverified members have no checks, full Trustpass members undergo strict verification procedures. Including company formation documents, VAT registration documents and Passports for all directors.
