Buying art to make reprints to sell? Where can I find it?

Hi,

This is a problem my fiancee is facing. She has set up a canvas art printing business and has a small number of images she can sell with the artists consent.

We have both tried looking for images but all we can find on the internet are stock image librarys such as istockphoto.com who sell images but you cannot make reprints of these to sell yourself.

How can these other small art printing companies afford to have a great range of fantastic images when the licensing costs are huge?

Her website is digitalescape.co.uk, she has been up and running for about 10 months now, and we are now desperate for some quality photos/art for the companies portfolio.

Any help will be much appreciated by us both,

Are you looking for images which you wish to buy outright and use with exclusivity or images which you can use with recompense to the owner for each occasion?

Go to art exhibition openings and ask the artist how much they want for the painting, plus reproduction rights. But don't ask them out-right. Tell them what your planing on doing with your acquisition, if they raise eyebrows them mention money for reproduction rights.

Why not try the local art college, a lot of the new artists would do pictures cheap for you, just to get there name around. :D I know I sold a few works of mine cheap to help with college expences.
