apart from dmoz, what are the other major directories should i be listed in to get the best optimisiation?

there seem so many, and i dont really want to pay to submit if possible- anyone have experience of the best way to do it please?

You wont get much for free, but Cannylink and Businessseek are cheap for what you get.
