Hi All

I've been having intermittant problems for a couple of days with my fasthosts email accounts (usually ultra reliable). Anyone else out there having problems?

Regards

Hazel

Farcehosts? Wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole.

What you should do, is get in touch with them, and ask them if there's problems with their email service.

Having said that, I know what the answer will be. "No, go away you silly little customer".

Love it :D

Had one or two strange problems this year. They are normally very good if a little expensive with the extras.

I was locked out of my site for 10 days due to the enforced passwords changed (sent by post just before Christmas if I remember right) duely caused by fasthosts letting themselves be hacked.

Try someone nice and sensible, I would recommend Phil at openmind hosting.

I remember that happening indeed that was a good time for me i think i had around 7 people move their hosting to us in that period. But alas fasthost is not the greatest - i hope the OP manages to sort their issue.

Just dont hold your breathe on their amazing tech support crew!

Ahh well there you are talking about a thouroughly professional service where the guy who answers the phone always knows what he is talking about and they take pride in sorting it all out. If you have one or two sites and want it all to be reliable and done properly go to him.

I didn't realise farcical hosts had "intermittent" problems...

...I though they had permanent ones ;)

duely caused by fasthosts letting themselves be hacked.

Not just that... but also storing the passwords in plaintext too. Had they bothered their ar5es to implement even the most basic security, it wouldn't have been a problem.

With a company like that though, it's the advertising/marketing that comes first. Service, Security and Support last.

FastHosts are just scoundrals. I signed up for there webhosting being made to believe I could cancel whenever i liked. There service was awful so tried to cancel and was told im tied into a 12 month contract.

So its costing me £120 for for nothing.

That sounds really bad..I will suggest you to change your service provider if you are not satisfied with there service.

They must love customers like you (and I bet they have plenty of them too)! :P

yeah i bet

the annoying thing is when i signed up they never said anything about a 12 month contract and said i could cancel whenever i liked.

Blatent lies and i reccommend people to stay away from them, bunch of scam artists.

Thats the reason you should always read the TOS of any company you choice.

Just a advice for future :)

I am with fasthosts and have not been able to access my emails since about 12 pm today. Very frustrating.

We've picked up a couple of users due to e-mail problems, so you certainly aren't alone in your suffering - vote with your feet...

Email seems to be down again this morning. I would vote with my feet if I wasn't trapped in a 12 month contract. i've had bad luck with all 3 hosting companies I have used now!!

tbh, from experience, i'd still move and just pay the rest of the 12 months. At least you know that that way you will be able to operate your website.

Couldnt agree more. Leave and just let that contract die off - but you MUST remember to email/write to them well before the end of the 12 month contract to let them know you are cancelling otherwise they may just renew and charge without a word of warning.

I was trying to leave a small possibility of their being "some" decency from farcehosts.

Scotmum, I am inclined to agree. Sometimes you are better off cutting your loses and starting over. There are plenty of hosting companies who take pride in looking after their customers and provide a superior service level so I am certain you will find one who will provide you with the service you deserve.

Hope the email issues are resolved shortly - I can imagine it is extremely frustrating having your email offline.

Seconded :)

My main website is hosted at Fasthosts and I too get a lot of problems with their email servers breaking down. Which they always deny - they always say it's my fault for not setting up Outlook properly, blah blah blah. Idiots.

So everything I build now - whether for myself or for clients - is hosted with Open Mind. Fantastic service, great prices, feature-packed and no technical problems. Phil gets my vote every time :)

Thanks for all the advice. I have had terrible luck/judgement with my web hosting. I will make a decision today about it. I called fasthosts to try to get some info about it but was just met with an automated message telling me that they knew about the email problems and then just cut me off. Great service.

If they are not providing the service you are paying for that gives you reason to terminate the contract. They surly give a minimum uptime guarantee for the email infrastructure?

From what i remember someone telling me is that the uptime guarantee only applies to the hosting (not email) with Fasthosts.

scotmum
26th August 2009, 11:35
Yes that's right. They claim that the uptime on the web hosting is 99%. But I cannot find stats for email accounts. Mine has been down 2 days now.

Personally i could not go a few hours of email downtime never mind two days! I rely on email with clients too much to have down time.

I can't actually find any uptime guarantee in their t&c for email or hosting.

99% website uptime isn't good enough.

99% uptime = 7hrs 26mins downtime at least

They should be giving at least 99.9% uptime <45mins downtime.

I'm also having email problems with Fasthosts email today - it's their Pop3 server that's the problem, every few seconds Outlook interrupts me with loads of popups asking me to confirm the passwords for my (many) fasthosts email accounts. Extremely annoying and disruptive (it's doing this as I type this message - sooooo annoying!)

I get round the 'not being able to send/receive in outlook' issue by having all my Fasthosts emails forwarded to Google Mail - at least I can send and receive from @debbidoo.com through my Google Mail account.

Not ideal but it is at least a workaround.
