I'm starting to investigate which bank to use, and appreciate that everyone has issues with all of them at some point, but I'd appreciate to hear any thoughts anyone might have with the main players?
A poll would be interesting if one could be created...

For SME, Abbey's business bank account could be as cheap as free, the only downside is you can't use the branch & have to pay in through ATM or post

I was looking at Natwest although its 2 years free once your out of that they charge you for every little thing, I've since looked at Alliance and Leicester and am warming to them, from what I can gather you can deposit up to £3k in cash a month for free, direct debits and standing orders appear to be free and cheques paid in or written seem to be free as well, if the downside is you have to pay it in via an ATM then that could be a pain if your branch is in town centre like mine

I'm with A&L, cheap and happy with them. They are more flexible than Abbey who I was with before.

With A&L you can also pay in cash and cheques at any Post Office.
I'm with them and I'm very happy with their service. As long as you pay in a certain amount per month then most transactions are free. (That's after the first 18 months which are free.)

Interesting, I wouldn't ordinarily have thought of the A&L!
