Hi everyone

I producing a local business directory for local businesses to advertise their services.

Its a completely new venture so I'm learning all the time!

One thing that has concerned me & that I'd be grateful for any feedback is the issue of copyright.

Basically a lot of my clients are providing a hard copy of their advert taken from the ad designed in the local paper. I've checked with the local paper and they have confirmed that this is ok (i.e that there are no copyright issues), however the yellow pages is a different story as apparently the copyright for an ad they have designed lies with the yellow pages.

Hence if a client says they want something v similar to whats in the yellow pages how different does it have to be so that I am not breaching the copyright? Also what about clients who want their flyer/brouchure scanned in for their ad. Would there likely be any copyright issues with the print company that designed and printed their flyer?

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

Cheers

Reb

Hi Reb,

I believe in UK law that if someone writes something original such as a song or a body of text, then ownership and copyright are automatically granted to that person. How this compares with designs and adverts I'm not too sure.

There are other members on the forum who will know and no doubt will reply as soon as they see your post.
