Hello people

I have worked with some new businesses recently and I have decided that I want to start specialising in the area. I want to offer start up packages that are really good quality printing, easy to order and value for money. I have put together a package please tell me what you think.

The packages are not yet on sale I am just getting feedback so please do not think this is a plug.

Start up package;

250 Business cards – Full colour on 350gsm silk art card

100 Letter Heads – Full colour on quality 100gsm A4 paper

500 Compliment slips – 1 colour on 100gsm paper

All for £299 including VAT, design and delivery!

Please can people tell me what they think and if people would be interested in ordering such a package.

Matt, MK Printing

Are the business cards/Compliment slips double sided?

If so it sounds great :)

What about just offering the 'business cards' and 'Compliment slips'.

On another note...
No offence but you have too many sharp colours on your website, it hurts the eyes. I personally think you should calm it down a bit.

But saying that the website is much better than the older one (if i remember correctly)

At the moment the business cards are single sided but I am going to give people the option of having either 250 double sided cards, 500 laminated single sided cards or 1000 single sided cards.

The compliment slips are single sided, I have never seen a double sided one and I don't even sell them.

The website is being toned down, it is being worked on this afternoon. We also sell each of the products by themselves.

Remember that my packages include design, delivery and VAT! When you buy from me you know it is all going to arrive together, it is going to be great quality and that it will all looks the same!

If I remember correctly I have sent you samples so you know how good the quality is. They were the thinner cards too. When are you going to order yours?

Tell you what, if you call me today I will give you a great discount on your business cards, today only! 0161 248 5474

Matt

I'm pretty certain that the letter heads are more important at start up than comp slips so would prefer to see the quantities the other way around (500 letter head + 100 comps) and would also be happy enough with 90gsm paper.

It was a couple of years ago but I paid a lot less than £299 for 1000 2 colour letter heads and 500 business cards, I think it was £130 + vat and £20 for the art....

Fair point

I have looked at my prices and I can do 1000 1 colour letter heads and 1000 full colour quality business cards for £199 inc delivery, VAT and design.

We only use 100gsm paper as it just gives that feel of high quality. The business cards would be 350gsm silk art card.

Hi Matt,

The 'package' is a good idea, but I agree that the compliment slips need to be a lesser amount. I just wonder whether there would be enough demand for the package, given that many of us make our own on computer? (I certainly couldn't make the 'novel' double sided With Compliments slip!)

Following on from that, many 'startups' don't have logos etc organised, so that would impact upon the demand for large quantities of letterhead.

From my perspective, the best 'package' for new businesses would be business cards and custom stationery. Included in the custom stationery would be items like quote books/forms, invoices, statements etc. To have these available rather than rely on the 'Staples or Viking specials' is much more professional and adds weights of credibility to the new business.

It's too late for you to help me, but I use one terriffic printer from this forum who has catered for all the above requirements. I'm sure the demand is there.
cheers, Nigel

Matt

That sucks :p I was out the office when you posted this, at the bank :( Oh well.

Anyway better quantity would be something like:

250 Business cards – Full colour on 350gsm silk art card

250 Letter Heads – Full colour on quality 100gsm A4 paper

200 Compliment slips – 1 colour on 100gsm paper

The biggest problem I would have with it is the price is too high for many startup businesses. I am not doubting the value for the money or the quality of the product, I am doubting the demand.

On a final note I will probably print a lot of my own stuff out and use a local printing firm my other material becuase it will save on the delivery cose, there is no such thing as free delivery, just delivery included in the price.

PS Matt I have noticed you're in Manchester so I will make a note of your details. I may want some 2 A6 colour leaflets doing for one my businesses.

Does anyone actually use comp slips???

I either write someone a letter if I need to include info or alternatively I put in a couple of business cards (gives out my contacts and are a lot more portable / transferable than a comp slip).

Business cards & letterheads are probably around the right volume though!

I use comp slips - they're handy for including a quick note in with an invoice or something else going by post.

A lot friendlier than a type-written note.

Comp slips - NO never

now post cards is a diff thing! have a great graphic on one side & blank on the other (or logo) , has a much higher quality feel than a comp slip & much more flexible for a small business

As someone who deals with start ups all the time, I trialed a printed startup pack a couple of years ago and the take up was none existant. I sold none, despite starting up well over a thousand startups a month.
What I found is when starting up they all purchased a colour printer and ran off their own stationary to begin with. IN massive runs this is obviously more expensive, but in reality they only needed a handful of letterheads to get going, and they all either go business cards printed by a printer they knew, usually from templates, or ran off their own using templates from the likes of Staples (or those machines in service stations).

Sorry to blow the wind out your sails Matt, but from experience you are better off focusing on offering a good deal on specific requirements per client. The startup pack probably wont have a great take up, unless you badge it as something like a PDF design so the client can print their own letterheads, and then X00 business cards professionally printed.

But that's the 'power' of UKBF. We love to sift through the history, hoping to find just one little gem or snippet of information.

I think I remember MK. Matt wasn't it? Yep, a great guy, helped us all benefit by his study and research into marketing. He did receive his accolades though, by the 20 or so daily emails from us.

A sad loss to UKBF.
cheers, Nigel
