I know there is already a thread on this, but the Iphone has had a new version and the RIM has said it's going to focus on applications.

So those of you who have either what is your thoughts.

Btw i will use almost 90% for business and have my e-mail set up on there.

Is there a difference.

The only thing that attracts me to iphone is the apps as it seems every tom, dick and harry are building apps for the iphone!

btw i've a Blackberry Bold but can easily switch to an iphone.

It depends on what you want it for primarily.

If you're going to be doing a lot of email on it - or indeed a lot of typing in general- then my personal viewpoint is that you're better off with a proper keyboard instead of iPhone's on-screen one.

If more of what you do will involve visual applications, get an iPhone.

My other half has an iPhone, and I just find I don't like the keyboard on it so far.

I chose my iPhone over the BB Curve. I prefer the iPhone bigger user base, more applications and I prefer having a sleek fullscreen phone, rather than one with a keypad.

Typing on it is easy!

Another vote for the iPhone, typing on it has gotten much easier since the update to allow landscape keyboard. Although haven't used a Blackberry before, so can't give much of an opinion on it :) I'm very biased!

Also worth looking at Windows Mobile devices like the HTC Touch Pro lots of aps as it is an open platform.

We use iPhones and i have to say they are excellent - and thats coming from someone who has a hatred for virtually anything Apple.

We have a bigredbox using exchange and its really useful being able to sync you contacts and calender.

I like the way the keyboard learns how you type and the mistakes you make as well. Everything about it just seems to work really well.

As others have said it will really come down to how comfortable you are using a real keyboard vs a virtual one, I was unsure myself so played on one for 20 minutes before buying and love it. Although bizarrely some days I can type as fast as a secretary and other days I miss loads of keys!

We had the same dilema & bravely chose the iphone after using blackberry for a few years.
No regrets, does everything we need & more.
Opens attachments such as word, pdf & excel with no problem.

The only gripe is battery life, but that is improved now on 3Gs version i undertstand.

Both :-) Can't really compare 'like for like' as it depends on features etc. plus there's several BB models around.

What's better on the iphone ..
Better apps
Better internet
More cachet
Video/browsing/twitter etc

What's better on the BB
keyboard
Calendar
corporate type-stuff such as handling Email, syncing, PIN chatting, heavy useage

Blackberry's got a steeper learning curve, but has lots of shortcuts, hacks etc and if you use a phone/email/text device a lot, you will work faster. Iphone is funkier and fun, but don't think it's a true 'enterprise' level device - yet. The new OS 3.0 has added a lot of functionality, mainly to try and aim it more at business market, but for sheer useability on a day-to-day, BB every time.

It's like driving from Lands End to John o'Groats in a grey, dull Mondeo (BB) against a sexy red Alfa Romeo. The Alfa/iphone would be a faster, more enjoyable, fun adventure but would always bet on the Mondeo to get there in the end whilst the Alfa might not.

Blackberries recent models look smarter than before, but still not gorgeous like the iPhone. But most of the Blackberries have better camera than the iPhone.

iPhone every time. Mine is superb. I couldn't wait to get rid of my Blackberry and stumped up the early cancellation fee when the 3GS was released.

I can type on the iPhone nearly as well as on a proper keyboard!

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I bought a blackberry. Used it for a week. Found a few friends with iphone's and gave it a test run.

Result: Sent my BlackBerry Bold back to 02 and I've ordered the Iphone 3GS. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've used blackberry in a large corporate and I've got an iPhone myself - to be honest if all you are looking for is something for email - get a blackberry, if you want something for all the extras definately get the iPhone. The apps are brilliant.

i've also run WM for ages but found the battery life on my Vario III to be useless (not even lasting a day)

That's my opinion anyway :-)

I was torn between the two, but as I primarily wanted it for email use, I went for the Blackberry, and absolutely love it.
The guy in the store summed up the difference between them nicely for me- he said 'The Blackberry is a communications device, with media capabilities, and the Iphone is a media device with communications capabilities'
I woudlnt trade my Blackberry for anything, it has everything I need.

'The Blackberry is a communications device, with media capabilities, and the Iphone is a media device with communications capabilities'

Quoted for the truth.

I have an iPhone and I use it more for the iPod and App side of things. If ever I wanted a phone to use frequent emails I would definitely consider a BlackBerry

Typing is a strange one - I never thought I'd like a touchscreen for typing, and thought nothing could compare to my Blackberry, but I find typing on my iPhone much easier than using the Blackberry's small keyboard, and using the touchscreen gestures on the iPhone as a whole is a pleasure :)

Maybe the Storm (and newer?) are easier, but the iPhone is near-perfect...and when you're done with work you can put a film on :D

It's 90% subjective though so to the OP whichever you buy, make sure you've tried them out first. You might hate the touchscreen (give it a chance though), or find the BB's battery life is a life-saver (iPhone needs charging every day even with my 3G S - 3G kills the battery :()

Having used both, I would go for the iphone every time, I find the virtual keypad much easier to use than the little Blackberry keys, and the iphone has loads more applications

If you are going to use lot of emailing - get RIM. iPhone`s battery will die in days time.

I went through a similar choice a few months back and bought.....a Nokia E71. It's brilliant!!

Have used blackberrys in the past and would say that this is on a par from the communications angle. Not as good as iphone for web surfing, but as I wanted it primarily as a communications device that syncs with my exchange server it's just perfect

The bad thing about both is that they don't take good pictures

ooo right! thats why my phone has about 500 pictures stored and lots of music! We live in 2009, mobile phone is used for everything. Why pay £300 for an ugly blackberry?

You cant ask for digital camera quality pictures from mobile phone. Have you ever compared size of cameras? Phone cameras are like 10 times smaller. How can you ask for the same performance?

I personally am in favour of the G2 Touch also known as the HTC Hero. I'm writing this post with it right now with no trouble at all and typing quickly.

I find it very easy to use and I have loads of free applications to play about with. I'm a fan of the qwerty keyboards with the auto predict function for fat fingered folk.

I love the many ways of communication I have for a single contact. Android is cutting edge and is getting better all the time..

I'm also a fan of the guy who got me the deal for this phone... 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, email, web, free voicemail. 2 months free, 25 quid for joining...

Oh and a free G2 touch.

£23 per month.

Can't fault that... if youre interested in something similar or the same deal just share your interest here..

My daughter has a Blackberry & I have an iphone 3gs and I much prefer my iphone to the Blackberry.

There's some great business applications that'll let you edit word documents, pdf's, send faxes etc etc. I actually think with the correct applications the iphone's a more powerfull business tool. Do a google search for iphone apps and you'll see what i mean.

The only downsides i've found are my battery only lasts a day, everyone wants to play with it and the signal reception doesn't seem as strong as my old Nokia.

I'm another Apple hater and never thought I'd own one of their products... but my iphone is probably my favourite gadget of all time!

So let me give you an update!

I had the Blackberry bold for three days - it was ok - easy to set up - but my friends (also in business) had iphones & I had the chance to play with it.

So I returned by Blackberry and ordered an Iphone 3GS (white) three weeks ago.

WHAT A MISTAKE!! Apparently the chaps at O2 sent my phone, to my work, and a person called 'Trisha' signed for it. Now as you can see in my picture I'm not female - moreover all the security guards (in my secure building) are male! There is no Trisha or Patricia in the building (i checked)!

I rang O2 and explained. They basically said 'NOT OUR PROBLEM'. It was only when I sent a letter to the 'complaints department' explaining the situation and threatening further action did they decided to send me another phone.

THREE WEEKS LATER AND STILL WAITING FOR THE IPHONE. A part of me thinks I should have just stuck wit the Blackberry!

I'll let you know when I get it (...... if i ever get it)!

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with o2.

I had one of the first iPhones, I used it for a week, and it got unlocked and sold for a substantial profit and I went back to BB. It was so flawed it was incredible.

Since then, I have got myself a Macbook Pro, and the 3GS has come out.

Goodbye BB Curve, hello iPhone 3GS - fantastic piece of kit now they have got themselves sorted out and I was always frustrated that the BB wouldnt sync very well with my Mac.

I still use an 8900 Curve as a work phone, and the iPhone is the personal handset. Also makes taking the wrong phone with me on a night out a thing of the past!
