Hi Donna,

All printers should be able to offer an ethical green product, however the cost of this is unfortunately usually higher as recycled and part recycled stocks simply cost more money.

we get calls from companies who want a green product but also want to pay the same price or even less than our standard products. Unfortunately this isn't always possible as the additional costs have to come from somewhere and the profit margins in print these days is almost none existant.

100% recycled doesn't always offer the finish people want either as a glossy surface cannot be acheived on recycled stock, hence most being 80% recycled to allow for a coating which cannot to date be made from recycled paper.

We can source prices for you for all of your recycled products, drop me a PM with the goods your looking for and i will see what i can do

Ian

It's something that I think most printers now offer!

We don't yet hold the FSC chain of custody/ISO although we do have an environmental management certificate from Abricon, details here (http://www.abricon.com/case-studies/EMS_Print_Vend.asp).

The vast majority of paper is supplied by Howard Smith (http://www.hspg.com/environment-operational/index.html) with all of our standard flyer, leaflet and booklet work being done using Regency (http://www.hspg.com/divisions/howard-smith-paper-commercial-print/product/items/regency-gloss-1.html) which is an FSC/PEFC accredited stock, we can also work with Greencoat (http://www.hspg.com/divisions/howard-smith-paper-commercial-print/product/items/greencoat-100-offset-1.html) uncoated/silk/gloss which contain upto 100% recycled fibers.

All energy used on our site is reduced to an absolute minimum and is provided by Ecotricity (http://www.ecotricity.co.uk/).

Every item used during production is recycled or reprocessed and wastage during runs is practically eliminated.

So we do quite a bit, but then I'd hope most other printers do as well!

I know a carbon-neutral parcel company, if that helps.

Thanks everyone for your replys

I have experience of printing on recycled stock but I do find it limiting as to who can supply products at cost effective prices it tends to be the larger printing companies which as a designer I find it hard to build a relationship with.

Also it would be nice to work with a supplier that has the same working ethic as my own company regarding the environment,

Many Thanks Again

Hi Donna

When ever possable we always produce all our print, using http://www.responsibleprint.info/ this means that every part of the supply chain has been examined to measure and reduce the environmental impact

Here is an outline of what it covers

SO 14001 certified printer
paper must contain at least 50% recycled fibre content
papers with virgin fibre content must have FSC or PEFC certification
all process inks used are vegetable oil based
any gloss, semitone or matt laminates used must be biodegradable and home compostable
polywraps for mailing outers should be as thin as possible and can be biodegradable if appropriate*
the entire life cycle of the printed item has undergone carbon footprint analysis and a payment has been made to offset the associated CO2 emissions
rigorous, innovative and genuine environmental protection schemes are in place within the supply chain for further details about what kind of measures have been implemented by the approved Responsible Print® printers
every quote and invoice carry details of the CO2 emissions associated with the project, giving you unparalleled accountability and ability to assess the impact of your print

Hi Donna

You've picked a great month to ask the question as in August we've got lots of half price recycled deals, including half price Business Cards, Leaflets and Notepads: printing.com/prices/special_offers

http://www.printing.com/images/promo/offer-wide.jpg

Not only that, but our every day lowest cost Business Cards, Letterheads and Leaflets all have recycled content, so you won't pay a premium with us.

97% of the paper we use now comes from FSC certified forests and we have FSC chain of custody.

Every order our customers place with us count towards our goal of planting 100,000 Trees for Schools with Tree Appeal and David Bellamy. We're more than half way there and have already planted 50,000 trees. Find out more: printing.com/about/tree_appeal

All our processes are constantly refined to ensure that we minimise waste. What waste we do produce, we separate into seventeen distinct streams for easy recycling or reprocessing. We compact all of our waste paper to minimise transportation, prior to being recycled. Our printing plates are recycled and our used chemicals are disposed of responsibly.

We use vegetable-based inks, pumped straight from large drums, rather than smaller cartridges in wasteful packaging. And talking of packaging, we’ve drastically reduced the volume of waste we pass onto you too. All of our cartons are produced from unbleached board.

Our management systems have been assessed by BSI Management Systems and we’re pleased that they fulfill the requirements of the Environmental standards ISO 14001: 2004.

Send me a PM and we'll be happy to send you a sample pack of our full recycled range.

Hi there, I've been speaking to a fantastic guy at a company called The Print Doctor who has gathered some fantastic quotes for me across all sorts of ethical print options. I've spoken to quite a few companies and these are the only guys who have been able to drive prices down to a level that could work for us.

Deffo worth getting a quote from them on print of all types in my opinion, I think the fact that they have big buying power with printers thanks to their sizeable clents like Boots and Astrazenica really works in favour of the little guy. About time! :D

Hi Donna,

alocalprinter.com offer eco friendly printing
but i'll warn you - a client had some uncoated cards printed and they were very errr - "fluffy" would probably be the closest word!

I wasn't impressed, whether it was just a one off I don't know - but they're not too badly priced, might be worth asking for some samples first or just doing a small run...
