Hi all, I've recently setup a new site:

sheffieldvacancies[dot]blogspot[dot]com

The term I am trying to rank for is sheffield vacancies.

So, I type in sheffield vacancies, I am nowhere to be seen.

Now type in sheffield vacnacies and I feature top of the pile.

Could someone please suggest a reason for this. Thanks

Seems that Google thinks you have the incorrect spelling (vacnacies) used as anchor text on incoming links although, I just did a v quick anchor text backlink check and couldn't find any.

Go here... http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:nbrYo99hLsAJ:sheffieldvacancies.blo gspot.com/+sheffield+vacnacies&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

(then pay attention to what Google say's above your actual site)

Yeah, thanks for that.

I just looked at that cached page and it said the following.

These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: sheffiled vacnacies

... and, as it happens, I'm second for the term "sheffiled vacancies"

I've also looked at my backlinks and they all appear to be spelt correctly.

what about meta and content?

The keyword tags are all spelt correctly. I've just searched the content and that appears to be spelt correctly.

Have you got any internal links within your content (on any page) with the mispelling?

Good point, very easy to miss.

Do you realise that your blogger site will most likely be treated as a US site, due to being a .com domain hosted on US servers, and therefore have a very limited presence for UK only searches in Google UK?

Not a good approach for UK-targeting.

Thanks for the advice Brian. You make a very relevant point: my previous blogs have appealed to a wider audience and therefore the fact I use Blogger has not been to my detriment.

Is anyone aware of any English-hosted free blogs?

this is what i have noticed before...one small spelling mistake. Even if you corrected it, the result can be due to when you were last crawled.

I've looked through the site thoroughly and I can't find them - even gone Edit > Find and it doesn't come up. All my Google backlinks are spelt correctly. I'm just totally baffled.

- If someone else has too much spare time and fancies looking through the site for the spelling mistake then I'd be grateful. Perhaps I keep missing it? I'm not sure, but I've looked about 10 times.

Why worry about it?

You're showing at the top and may get some extra traffic - is that bad?

Yer don't worry. Google's algo just decided your site was the best fit for that query, you can play on this by actually optimising for typos.

I guess you're right.

Thanks for everyone's assistance on this thread - much appreciated.
