I want to start recording some of our sales calls for training purposes.

I know I can get a cable to take the telephone conversation to the input of a PC. But does anyone know of any software that will automatically detect activity on the line and record all calls. Ideally to MP3 format.

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm not sure what the exact legal position is of recording calls unless you inform the other person that you are doing so. I assume you intend to inform people that you are recording the calls.

Anyway, there is a program called 'modem spy' that claims to do what you are looking for (i.e. records telephone calls to mp3 format) I've never used it myself and I don't know how it works, so I can't vouch for the quality of it - so this reply is an answer, not a recommendation  .

It's only $25 and you can try it free for 30 days using the site below.

I am pretty certain there is no legal problems as long as the caller is made aware, just about every bank, insurance company etc has a message at the beginning "this call may be recorded......"

There may be a requirement to register under the "Data Protection Act", if these recordings will be retained for training purposes, or contain personal or financial details of the caller.
